Obituary of Aloysius Edward Zittel

No visitation Aloysius (Al) Edward Zittel, 92, of Olympia, died on June 11, 2007 at Panorama City Convalescent Center. Mr. Zittel was born on May 22, 1915 in Tacoma, WA to Nicholas and Mary (Brunner) Zittel. He graduated from Fife High School in 1933 and married Judith Hansen at St. Martin’s on June 25, 1935. He worked for Carstens Packing Company in Tacoma. In 1943 Al moved his family to Olympia to work for Continental Bakery and retired from Continental Bakery in 1977. During World War II he served in the Army as a cook at Camp Roberts in California. He purchased Johnson Point Resort, now known as Zittel’s Marina in 1957. He helped organize the South Bay Fire Department, was the first Fire Chief and served as a Fire Commissioner for many years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He belonged to the Elks. Al and his wife Judy spent their retirement years traveling to Arizona. During his life Al enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife Judith; his daughter Janice Kramer of Olympia; his son Michael Zittel of Olympia, eleven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister Catherine Holz; three brothers, Ray, Nick and Chuck Zittel; two children Barbara McCaslin and her unborn daughter, and David Zittel; two grandchildren, Terrance Kramer and Brett Zittel and one great-granddaughter Julie Ann Fristoe. A Funeral Mass is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 19, 2007, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 812 Bowker St. SE in Lacey, Washington.
