Obituary of Deborah Jean Wright

Prior to service at the Masonic Center Deborah Jean Wright died Friday, August 22, 2008 at St. Peter Hospital, after a five year battle with ovarian cancer. She was born on December 5, 1956 to George and Mae Ruddy in Spokane, Washington. Her family moved to Tumwater in 1963, and she attended Tumwater schools. After her graduation from Tumwater High School, she attended and graduated from Washington State University. She was proud to be a Cougar.She married Daniel Wright on September 5, 1981 and they resided in the Olympia area during their marriage. After the birth of her first child, she was a homemaker. She was active in her children’s education, and she was a Girl Scout leader for many years. She exercised her creativity in crafts, graphic design, and interior design. Deborah is survived by her husband, Daniel; her two children, Nathan and Morgan, of Tumwater; her brother, Jim Ruddy of San Jose, California; and her sister, Judy Brown (Craig) of Tumwater. Her parents preceded her in death. She was a committed parent to her two children, and supported them in their school and recreational activities. She was a long time Girl Scout leader for her daughter, and she supported her son in his quests in Boy Scouts. She was very proud of her children when they achieved the highest ranks in scouting, Nathan the rank of Eagle Scout, and Morgan the Gold Award. She was a great cook who loved to create innovative meals. She was intrigued by color and design, and she used her home as her studio and palette. Even after she was diagnosed with cancer, she continued to garden, decorate, paint, and be actively involved with her family. She was proud of her children’s accomplishments in school, scouting, and career aspirations. She loved to travel, visiting other states, Mexico and Europe. Even though she was battling cancer and dealing with the side effects of her treatments, she went to Italy to visit her daughter studying in Florence, Italy. Funeral Services will be held at the Masonic Center, 455 North Street, Tumwater, on Wednesday, August 27, 2008, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a graveside service the Odd Fellows Cemetery. Visitation will precede the service. Donations in her memory may be made to the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance or Washington State University.
