He was the first and foremost influential inspiration in my life. Everything I have done so far and my outlook on life as a whole is a direct result of his contribution to my youthful imagination. My Grandfather sent me fairietales from faraway places and postcards from Downunder. He will be travelling and dancing with me in my heart for the rest of my life. I miss you G'pa. <3

I was able to attend only part of the memorial ceremony on June 12th. It was wonderful gathering and I heard a lot of funny and touching stories about Al's life while I was there.
I was in Al's last program at Evergreen, PET in Spring 2005 with Frederica Bowcutt and Al Wiedemann. I thoroughly enjoyed the class and Al ,and it was wonderful to hear his stories. He took great joy in showing us the Dunes and spoke of his love of "weeds" frequently.

I'll always cherish the time we spent on our field trips in Plant Ecology and Coastal Dune Ecology... this old man could out walk every kid in the class...

I am saddened to hear of Al's passing. He was a wonderful teacher both because he was so knowledgeable about the subject and because his passion for it was contagious. Al holds a special place in my life and not only because I met my husband in his 1995 Plant Ecology and Vascular Plant Identification class! I send my condolences to all Al's family and want them to know that there are many strangers who loved Al and honor his memory.

What a beautiful obituary! Thank you for writing it. And i love the photo you used. It is a good one. I am very sorry that i will not be able to attend the memorial service. I will be thinking of you all right the way through it. ... I will always remember fondly the time i spent with my Uncle Al. I am greatful that he came out to England to visit me a few times. Thank you.
