Obituary of Wesley G. Whitt

“Off We Go Into the Wild Blue Yonder” Friends and family mourn the death of Wesley Gordon Whitt of Olympia, WA. Wes was born Nov 29, 1923 in Tipton, OK. He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard Henry Whitt and Roberta Elizabeth Armstrong, his stepfather Manford T. Hall of Boise, ID, and his twin brother Chuck Whitt. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Laura Jeanne; devoted children Susanne Whitt of Monterey, CA, Linda Whitt and Gary Whitt of Olympia, Michael Whitt of Seattle, Dedra Diane Whitt Dakota of Los Angeles and Barbara Hill Farmer of Anchorage, AK; grandchildren Brian and Shila Whitt, Lilly and Liam Dakota; and many cherished nieces and nephews. Wes spent 22 years in the Air Force, earning his wings in 1944 and going on to complete many missions on the Berlin Air Lift and in Korea, Japan and other Pacific Islands. He flew the legendary P-61 Black Widow and was a member of the renowned Sixth Night Fighter Squadron. Later in his career he switched from fighters to air refueling tanker planes. After retiring, he went on to earn his bachelor's and master's degrees, which led to a second career of public school teaching in Seattle, WA. He later pursued yet a third career as a tax consultant for educators. Wes was a devoted father, avid pilot, insatiable reader, "fair to middling" golfer, and lover of all things outdoors. He loved playing cards and was a great cook being known for his Lobster Thermador and char grilled steaks. We shall miss him greatly.
