Good memories! Taking a bunch of us to "Billy Bartons Barn", and to the "Tropics". We spent a lot of time at the "O K"drive-in. Spud and Elma's was a good place to do the limbo, and as everyone know's Wayne could out-do everyone. He was a great intertainer, and will be missed. I could probably write a book! Dance on, friend...

Dear Jodie and all the Whitneys, a little history, my Grandma (mother's side was married to Charles Whitney). There was a Chub Whitney that lived across the road from our farm and the Albert and Gladys Whitneys lived "down the hill" on the Oyster Bay Road. I was the little sister of Donald - Wayne. They had great sport at my expense teasing me and being mischevious, they would even toss rocks at me because I wanted to be included and I would follow them. Watch out - I am the singer and the writer in the family - Psalm 42 - How troubled your heart might be just now but even so we must honor God as He is the living God, my God, the God of my life. God my rock, the help of my countenance. When we exalt Him and glorify Him and join in worship in the house of God, praising the Lord will bring us deliverance, and will give us, with the Holy Spirit's help, peace that passes all understanding. Wayne made a great effort to find me and have me sing at his mother's funeral. He especially has a special song and it is one of the songs I sang at my Mom's funeral - "Suppertime" if space permits since I can not be there in person today, I would like to recite the words to you all. We are in the spiritual realm and we are in the physical realm. The spiritual realm has to do with coming home to Heaven and to see our loved ones who have passed on before us. - "Suppertime" -
"Many years ago in days of childhood, I used to play 'till evening shadows come; Then, winding down an old pathway, I heard my mother call at set of sun, COME HOME, COME HOME, IT'S SUPPER TIME! THE SHADOWS LENGTHEN FAST!
One day beside her bedside I was kneeling, And an angel wings were winnowing the air; she heard the call for suppertime in heaven, and now I know she's waiting for me there. COME HOME, COME HOME, IT'S SUPPER TIME! THE SHADOWS LENGTHEN FAST!
In visions now I see her standing yonder, And her voice I hear once more; The banquet table's ready up in heaven, It's suppertime upon the golden shore. COME HOME, COME HOME, IT'S SUPPER TIME! WE'RE GOING HOME AT LAST!! (God Bless Wayne, HE'S GOING HOME AT LAST - and he will see his Mom. God is so good to us!!!

I met Wayne years ago, in the 60s when I was married to Ray Salter. Just recently we crossed paths again as my husband was having cancer treatment also. I was so happy to see him but so sorry for the reason. Too many good people have been taken by this disease and Wayne was one of the best....he"s dancing with the angels! RIP my friend....

I first met Wayne when my mom and dad (Ray and Estelle)were playing music at the Eagles and I had the pleasure of watching him do the Limbo. Thru the years we met again when I worked at Luigi's and he would come in. A kind, gentle man. Dance on my friend you will be missed.

Dear Whitney family,
I worked in restautrants for many years, and remember Wayne as a very nice person - always happy and very polite.
I danced with him many times over the years, and it was always a fun time. Always sorry to see one of our "Rock Around the Clock" generation leave this world. I'm sure he's still dancing where he is now. Sorry for your loss, but he will always be in our memories.

We're so sorry for your loss. Whitney was definitely the Fonz of our age group. We'll always think of him with a smile. To this day, whenever we find a perfect parking spot, we refer to it as a "whitney" remembering how his little T-Bird was always parked right next to the State Theatre.

Sorry for your loss may God be with you and comfort you through this hard time. Wayne was a neighbor & a family friend. Our families visited back & forth through the years. Wayne was a boyhood friend of my brother, Donald Franks, and possibly my other brothers Robert and Buddy [Kenneth]. Sadly all those Whitney neighbors are gone now. What Memories! Dear Loved Ones of the Whitney Family. My memories of Wayne start with him picking cherries in the cherry tree on our farm. We lived
'up the hill' and Wayne and Carol lived 'down the hill'. His Mother and our Mother were friends and shared many garden stories. Wayne was always considerate of my Mother and Father and we eight children
and spent many hours at our home and out in the field, always waiting for Donald to finish his chores so they could cruise. Our condolences to the Family. With warm regard, Miriam and Del Bausch

Dear Love Ones of the Whitney family. What fond memories our family had of Wayne. He was our next door neighbor. Wayne was always at our home most of the time. He was always with my brothers Donald, Kenneth and our precious brother Robert on the farm.
I remember Wayne driving his classy T-Bird. And Wayne was such a great dancer. We would see Wayne all through the years at weddings and family gatherings. Wayne was a wonderful caring and loving man with a kind heart and had a smile for everyone. He will be greatly missed. My condolences to the family. Warmest Regards Janet Franks, Olympia, WA

Both Ron and I have known Wayne for many, many years and have enjoyed meeting up with him from time to time throughout these years. He always was upbeat and friendly. Ron, having been in the Cogs Car Club, had similar interests as Wayne and Gail (me) will always remember attending dances at the Eagles on a Friday nights and having the crowd grow excited as Wayne walked in. The band would play, someone would get out the limbo stick and Wayne would come forward and do the limbo for us. He was the only person I have ever seen that could be as tall as he was and still limbo under the lowest point of the stick. He was awesome. I will also remember him cruising around Olympia, sitting low in the seat in his pretty black car. He was the Fonz way before the TV version was ever produced. We will miss him.

Wayne was an acquaintance of mine. He was a nice, kind, and often humerous guy. He had the gift of dancing--everyone watched when he took the floor. He will be missed and I share in your grief.
