Obituary of Shaun West

No visitation Shaun West, 24, passed away at his home on April 22, 2007 after a short and courageous battle with cancer. He was born June 12, 1982 in Salem to David and Lynne West. He attended Englewood Elementary School and Parrish Middle School in Salem, and Jefferson Middle School and Capital High School in Olympia, Washington. He served a full time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Salt Lake City, Utah and had attended Brigham Young University Idaho. At the time his illness struck he was attending South Puget Sound Community College in Olympia and was employed by the Target Import Warehouse in Lacey, Washington. Shaun is survived by his parents; brothers, Ian West and Corey West (Alycia); sister, Natalie West, all from Olympia; grandparents, Gary and Catherine Huxford, of Monmouth, Oregon and Jean West of Salem; many doting aunts and uncles, cousins and niece, Ella West. He had recently become engaged to Jacque Buchanan, and treasured his time with her, as well as her parents, Gary and Carmela Buchanan, of Lake Tapps, and Cathy Buchanan, of Olympia. Shaun excelled at every sport he ever tried, but especially loved rugby and volleyball. After playing rugby in high school he passed on his love of the game to the young men he helped coach in the Budd Bay Rugby Club. He won many volleyball championships in the Olympia area and had continued to play until just prior to his diagnosis. He taught himself piano and was a gifted writer and artist. His humor and good nature was infectious and memories of him will continue to bring smiles and laughter to all those who were privileged to have known him. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2007 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 600 Overhulse Road NW, Olympia. A private burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Lacey. Donations may be given to the American Cancer Society, 1551 Broadway Suite 200, Tacoma, Washington, 98402-3332.
