Oh my. I'm so sorry to be 15 years late but I saw a film yesterday about a great high school teacher and thought of Mr. Webster and had to look him up. He taught me world history and psychology in the mid-80's at Capital HS. I moved out of state in the early 90's and lost contact. If his family is reading this I want to tell you how important he was to me as a high school student, as he obviously was to many of these other responders. I'm tearing up as I read these comments.
World History was especially awesome with Mr. Webster and his "A-1 way". :) He was so smart, witty and he truly cared about his students.
Like Kathy Y., he played matchmaker for me in 1985 for the Senior prom as well when he found out that I hadn't yet asked anyone. And like Kathleen G., he encouraged me to apply to Whitman College and that completely shaped the course of my life. I met my wife of 30 years at Whitman.
Although I had not seen Mr. Webster in many years, I still think about him very often. He was a fantastic teacher and even better person. I hope his family is well.

This is late, but I am compelled to write it anyways. I had you for Psychology in senior year. When giving papers back to us, you always asked us "regular or personalized?" I always said "regular" but you would rip my paper anyways before giving it back. You made that class fun. I was sad to learn that you are gone now. I am sure that Heaven is having a lot more fun with you there.

I met Mr. Webster (even after 20-plus years, I can't call him anything else!) freshman year and endured his merciless teasing until graduation (he knew I was an easy mark). He encouraged me to join the debate team (which I didn't), and somehow helped expedite my application to Whitman College in the eleventh hour, when the prospect hadn't even entered my mind. That was pretty life altering -- I can't imagine my life had I not followed his advice! When my family had its very public "troubles", he kept an eye on me from across Pod A. All that time, he urged me to "live up to my potential", which I didn't always do, but he made me want to. He was a great teacher because he always made his students feel like they had potential. Thank you for sharing him with us.

Mr. Webster was my Psych teacher in 1975. He was very kind to me. We had a weekly assigment all year. He would collect the papers at the beginning of class then select a few to be discussed... asking the author to talk about their article. I nearly died when I realized he could choose my paper and I'd have to try to talk in front of everybody! I was terrified by the possiblity. After several weeks he discreetly asked me why I wasn't turning in the assignments. I was embarrased & scared to tell him, because other teachers had told me I needed to just get over my shyness. But, he promised he wouldn't read my paper if I simply wrote a reminder to him on it, "please don't read". And he kept his promise. I'll never forget the relief I felt & how I appreciated him for understanding and not lecturing me. My heartfelt sympathy goes to all of his loved ones.

I'm sure that Doug and Don are having a wild old time together right now and reminiscing about the good old days in Pod A with the rest of the gang. Don was such a character and I'll remember him fondly. My thoughts are with you, Rose, and with the boys and the rest of your family.

Our time together was too brief, but I will never forget the time we did have. I will forever remember his great sense of humor, his ever inquisitive probing into every facet of life and his generosity.
Lively debates were always in the mix when Don was around and I enjoyed being both a spectator and sometimes a reluctant participant. I learned from Don when he probably had no idea he was teaching. I have many examples of his generosity around me each day as our home has Fijian flair wherever you look, and I smile and remember Don each time I see an island gift which was sent our way. Don made a huge difference on the world by his impact on so many students lives. He made the world a better place with three children who have grown into excellent people who are in turn making their marks...in each I see a similar spirit of adventure, competitiveness, sharp wit & intellect and the constant pursuit of active and fullfilling lives.
I am thankful for the way Don welcomed me into his family...
I am thankful for his daughter, my wife Jeri...
and I am thankful for the time I had with my father in law, Don.

AS a teacher you inspired students to try harder and was always there to help. You made learning such fun!I will never forget the times you would go by my house playing golf and stopped to say hi and to pet my collie dog.You came to visit when I hurt my knee. You were the one teacher I will never forget.
You urged me to follow my dreams and I did. After many years I retired from Animal Control where I investigated animal cruelty here in the Thurston Co.area.Thank you Don for showing me the way! Class of 1966

I was fortunate enough to have Mr Webster as a teacher. He taught my 12th grade Sociology class. That was a great class! I am extremely proud to say that he was one of my favorite teachers. Mr Webster, you will be sorely and greatly missed.

Mr. Webster gave me some great memories that I have shared with others (including my own high school children) over the years. When I found myself at the last minute with no date to the Senior Prom, it was Mr. Webster who found an escort for me. He chanted this boy’s name and coerced his classroom to chant along, then he directed the whole pod to join in until this young man asked me (in front of this very large audience) to be his date.
I was a very poor student in Mr. Webster’s class, he had no reason to pass me. I had another teacher whose class I had worked very hard in, that teacher’s grading was (in my opinion at the time) very subjective, although I tried hard he seemed determined to see me fail. Nearing graduation and not seeing any likelihood that I would have enough credits to graduate, Mr. Webster approached this teacher (again with an audience) and announced to him (in a way that only Mr. Webster would) that if I was to fail in that class he was going to see to it that I graduated by passing me out of the goodness of his heart. Thanks to Mr. Webster, I went to the Senior Prom and Graduated with my 1985 class.

Don . . . long time friend and colleague, at both OHS and CHS. We had lots of talks, usually resulting in agreements, and many good times. Sorry to lose you, buddy. Condolences to Rose, Don jr., Ed and Jeri.

Don, Mr. Webster. Such a kind and thoughtful human being you were to so many; I am thankful to be among those you inspired during your long career as a teacher. Your humorous, energetic classroom manner, charmed the girls and reminded me occasionally of "Mr. Hand" from "Fast Times at Ridgemont High". Your Psychology classes were a riot, scenes I'll never forget. Thank you.
