Obituary of Virginia M. Ward

No visitation Virginia M. Ward was born to Edward C. and Nellie R. (Campbell) Tegner on September 27, 1917 in Seattle, lived in the Tumwater-Olympia area for over 60 years, and died in Tumwater on Thursday, July 22, 2004. She graduated from Puyallup High School in 1936 and Pacific Lutheran College in 1941. She taught school at Woodland Grade School, Puyallup 1941-43. She married Homer S. Ward June 5, 1943. Together they raised five children. He preceded her in death in 1972. Virginia worked for 13 years for the Wash. State Department of Revenue. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Olympia since 1956 where she served as an Elder and Deacon. She was Royal Matron of Capitol Court, Order of Amaranth and active in many other Masonic orders. Virginia loved to pick blackberries and was a great pie maker. She enjoyed many crafts, her bridge club, vacationing and camping with her family. She is survived by four of her children; Daniel F. Ward, Salem, OR, Margaret E. Williams, Upland, CA, Wendy L. Horton, San Jose, CA, and Melinda (Mrs. Stephen) Hillier, Salem, OR; 10 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Helen Tegner of Beaverton, OR; and many life long friends. Her son, David M. Ward, preceded her in death. Virginia's family would like to extend special thanks to Dorothy Hillier and Katherine Gray for their loving care and support. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Christian Church Memorial Fund, 701 S. Franklin St., Olympia, WA. Services will be held Monday, July 26, 2004 at 11:00 a.m., First Christian Church, Olympia. Interment will follow at Masonic Memorial Park, Tumwater.
