Obituary of Gertrude E. Waddle

Gertrude E. Waddle April 4, 1916 - January 30, 2008 Mrs. Gertrude “Trudy” Waddle, born in Olympia in 1916, Lot H. and Meta D. (Pfaff) McGonigle and was a devoted wife, aunt, and friend throughout her 91 years of life. She is greatly appreciated by all who knew her and will be missed. Trudy married Howard Waddle on April 11, 1936. She took pride in being a homemaker during 72 years of marriage. Through World War II she worked for the Office of Price Administration serving Olympia. Trudy enjoyed gardening, sewing, and had great fun boating on Puget Sound with family and friends. She especially enjoyed traveling the U.S.A. by car with her husband and talking about those adventures with family and friends. Trudy’s family moved to Benton City, Washington where she completed her first two years of school before moving back to Olympia. She graduated from Olympia High School in 1934. Last summer she celebrated her 73rd high school reunion with members of her class. Trudy was a Life Member of the Olympia Women’s Club. Trudy is survived by her husband and best friend, Howard. Known by family as “Auntie Boo”, she is survived by eight nieces and nephews and many great and great great nieces and nephews and by sister-in-law, Esther Johnson, of Tumwater. “Auntie Boo” was an important influence on her nieces and nephews throughout her life sharing her home, her stories, and the fun of gardening and boating. Graveside service will be held on Monday, February 4, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Masonic Memorial Park in Tumwater. You may make memorial donations to a charity of your choice.
