Obituary of Marian Vitazko

Marian "Al" Vitazko On a beautiful day in Olympia, with sunshine in the morning, and snow falling in the afternoon, our Lord called Marian home to him. Marian “Al” Vitazko, 66, an 8 year resident of Olympia, died March 26, 2008 of lung cancer. He was born to Ignac and Paulina (Svecova) Vitazko August 13, 1941, raised in Slovakia. In 1959 he graduated from the Institute of Technology in Bratislava, Slovakia. After immigrating to Canada in 1968 he completed his associate's degree as an Engineering Technician from the B.C. Institute of Technology in 1972. Marian settled in Vancouver, British Columbia until 1985 then moved with his family to the United States. He lived in San Diego, California and came to Washington State in 1994 where he was an estimator with Robinson Painting in Tumwater for the past 8 years. He was first married to Anna Korbasova from 1967 to 1972. His second marriage was to Terezia Tobias from 1983 to 1998. Marian's children were his main interest in life. He supported them in all of their endeavors, and took great pride in their accomplishments. He loved to cook for his children and their friends, especially Mark's college buddies. He also enjoyed entertaining co-workers and long time friends at his home, especially around his collection of specialty liquors from around the world. Marian liked to take long walks around his neighborhood in West Olympia, often with his son, Michael and Christina's dog, Kasey. Marian was also an avid hockey fan who could point out all the Slovak players in the NHL. Marian is survived by sons, Milan Vitazko, of Bratislava, Slovakia, Mark Vitazko and Michael Vitazko, both of Olympia; daughter, Christina Vitazko, of Lacey; sisters, Juliana Kubelova and Stanislava Horniak; mother, Paulina Vitazkova; and granddaughter, Veronika Vitazkova, all of Slovakia. Marian was preceded in death by his father, Ignac. A very special thank you to the wonderful and compassionate staff at the Providence St. Peter Hospital Medical Rehabilitation Unit. They cared for Marian with the utmost respect and dignity. They provided a loving and caring environment for his family, especially the children, during a very painful time in their lives. God bless you all.
