Obituary of LaVerne Thorell

Laverne M. Thorell LaVerne M. Thorell 85 passed away; December 3, 2010, where she had been a resident of Providence Mother Joseph Care Center, Olympia, Washington for the last 4 years. Prior to that she lived at Providence St. Francis House from 1998 to 2006. She came to Olympia in 1997 to be closer to her children. LaVerne was born January 28, 1925 in Peoria, Illinois to her parents Charles and Caroline Thomas. She grew up in Peoria, graduating from Manual High School in 1943 and continued her education at Illinois Central College in East Peoria. She married December 7, 1949. She and her husband continued to live in Peoria, where they raised their family. LaVerne worked as a secretary/bookkeeper for the Peoria Journal Star, the Machinist Union and Dempsey-Jamison. She enjoyed crocheting, music, bingo, bowling and gardening. She was a lifetime member of St. Boniface Church and bowling team. LaVerne was truly a devout mother and treasured member of the family. She loved spending time with family and friends and was always a welcome sight. LaVerne appreciated the simple things in life. She shared her wisdom and her door was always open. She was a moral compass to her sons and daughter. She loved music and understood the joy it brings to others. She knew compassion and was there for anyone who needed her. She led an exemplary life and was inspiration to others. She exuded strength and virtues that were apparent to all that knew her. She valued being a good teacher, listener, friend and matriach. She will greatly be missed by her sons Bjorn Thorell, Jr. Charles Thorell of Bothell, and her daughter Linnea Ridenour of Olympia, Washington. Her Sister Mary Lou Spitzer of Peoria, Illinois her 3 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, Chuck, Bill, Virgil and Merle.
