Sunday, August 22, 2004, 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 18501 Paulson SW Rochester, WashingtonMonday, August 23, 2004, 11:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Memorial Gardens Funeral Home 1101 NE 112th Avenue Vancouver, Washington Nolan J Thompson, 87, died of natural causes and advanced Parkinson’s Disease Thursday, August 19, 2004 at his home in Olympia. He was born in Annabella, Utah on November 1, 1916 to Lemuel and Sarah Sophia (Johnson) Thompson. He had previously lived in Los Angeles, California and Vancouver before settling in Washougal for 33 years. He has lived in Olympia for the past 6 years. On April 17, 1943 in Ft. Hamilton, New York, Nolan married Elsie May Korevaar. She died in 1998. Nolan served in the U.S. Army Field Artillery from 1942 to1945 in France and Germany. He was with the Washington Army National Guard, retiring as Lt. Colonel 1969. From 1946 to1950 he was employed by Western Waxide/Western Wax Paper Company, 1950 to 1952 Russellville Wireworks as a Principal. In 1953 he worked for Blue Rock Package Containers and then from 1954 to1980 with Crown Zellerbach Paper Company retiring from there in 1980. Among his many interests were tool and die manufacturing, reading, especially poetry and science, self-improvement, children, crossword puzzles, scrabble, news, singing, puzzle and toy invention. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Toastmasters, Retired Officers Association, and the Crown Retiree's Club. Nolan is survived by three sons, Nolan J Thompson II, of Olympia, Mitchell Dale Thompson, of West Jordan, Utah, Joseph Gregory Thompson, of Pullman; two daughters, Patricia Anne Jones, of Kaysville, Utah and RoseMarie Gee, of Kelso; one brother-in-law, Albert Korevaar, of Tillamook, Oregon; also 24 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. A viewing will be held on Sunday, August 22, 2004 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 18501 Paulson SW, Rochester. A second viewing will take place from 11:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Monday at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1101 NE 112th Ave., Vancouver. A graveside service will follow the viewing at 12:00 noon at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, 1101 NE 112th Ave., Vancouver. Arrangements are with Funeral Alternatives of Washington, (360)-753-1065.
