Dear Family - I'm so sad to hear of Uncle John's passing. It's always hard being on the other side of the planet, but even more so in times like these. I've sent Chauncey off in my own way and have nothing but wonderful memories of all the time I spent under his roof, as part of the family. He leaves behind an irreplaceable gap, and although I didn't get to see him often enough, I will miss him even more. Those who weren't lucky enough to have known him are less for it. My thoughts and prayers are with you all, and please know that I'm thinking of you. He'll always be my Santa Clause. God Bless him.

Mark,
We never met your father, but based on what a wonderful family you have, we have to believe that he was a remarkable man who invested a great abundance of time and love in his family. Remember that a very important part of him will live on through each member of the Tharp family. So as he watches over you from Heaven, may his love, memories, influence, humor, values and wisdom guide you, your children, and your children's children. Our condolences, prayers, and appreciation go out to your entire family. -- The Carbaugh Family

Gloria, Mark and family, I am truly sorry for your loss. John was always a role model of what a happy family man is like, that is how I will always remember him. He was forever happy and you could see how much he loved his family. I have very fond memories of spending time with him and the family. It was usually one boisterous laugh after another. He will sincerely be missed by many. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

My favorite thing about John was his unconditional love and support of his family members. It didn't matter if it was a promotion for Mark, a drawing by 4 year old Jenny, a reading award for 10 year old Rebecca, or a 5K trophy for 11 year old Brandon...he always let them know how proud he was and how much he loved them. Although we didn't see him often, we all loved him and will miss him terribly. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of his family members and friends. We'll do something special with our immediate family in his honor soon.

I'll never forget Johnny's big booming voice full of faith saying the 23rd Psalm at my mom's (Auntie Jean's) memorial service. What comfort he was. Much love to Gloria, Mark, Glen, Molly and Chris and their mates and all the grandchildren and to Ann Marie and Phil, Dan and Mary, Bob and Charlotte & your kids. We love you.

Dear Mark and the Tharp family,
On a personal note having lost my beloved father three years ago this February there are few other events in my life that have been as painful. Good fathers are truly the backbones of their families and can never be duplicated or replaced by anyone. We are keeping you and your family in our hearts and prayers for the strength to carry you through this time in your lives. We must always remember that God is still in control and his will, will be done. Be blessed.

My heartfelt condolences to Gloria, Mark, Glen, Molly, and Chris through this difficult time. You all were like a second family to me growing up. I remember so many good times and will continue to reflect on them forever. John treated me like a 2nd daughter at a time when I really needed a father figure. You all had that gift of making everyone feel like family. He will truly be missed and I am so grateful for sharing the time I had with him. God Bless.
