Obituary of John Melvin Swidecki

John Melvin Swidecki John Melvin Swidecki, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed peacefully on March 26, 2011, at age 82, to his eternal life with the Lord. Born to Dorothy and John J. Swidecki on March 20, 1929, in Flint, MI., he was raised by his grandmother and went to school in Flint, until Sept. of 1946, when he went into the US Navy. While serving in San Francisco, he worked on the ship used in the atomic bomb testing at Bikini Atoll. After being discharged from the Navy, he came to Olympia, and finished his high school education at Olympia High School in June of 1951. On October 1, of that same year, he married the love of his life, Pauline Roy, at St. Michael's Church. They lived happily together for 59 1/2 years. After 34 years, he retired from Fort Lewis as Supervisor of Engineering technicians. John's love of electronics carried over as a hobby, as he loved to work on anything with his hands and was always up to a challenge. John was eager to learn. John is survived by his wife, Pauline; three sons and one daughter, Joseph and wife Alana of Napavine; Robert, and wife Alice of Tenino; Thomas of Olympia; and Teresa Leech and husband Bob, also of Olympia; 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
