Obituary of Leo B. Sweeney

Leo B. Sweeney Leo passed on October 12, 2007 at Madigan Medical Center. He was born in Tacoma, Washington in 1929, coming to Olympia in 1939. He attended St Michael’s School and St. Martins High School. Aside from being a loving father of 6 children, Leo was a journeyman printer of 17 years, progressing on to a local leader of the Teamsters Local 378 for 26 years, before retiring as Secretary Treasurer in 1992. He also retired from 39 years of service in the Army National Guard. Additionally he served 11 years as a Washington State Transportation “Commissioner”. His total list of life time accomplishments are far to vast to list. Leo is survived by his wife of 56 years, Janet Sweeney; and children Kathleen (Ed) Hopkins, Karen Gaither, Korinne Arroyo, Kristina Sweeney and Daniel (Mia) Sweeney; eight grandone’s, Jeff and Brett Hopkins, Ryan and Aric Gaither, Marcus and Nicholas Arroyo, Maren and Laine Sweeney; one great grandone, Ava Gaither; sister, Teresa Sweeney; brothers, Jim (Midge), Tim, David (Mary Alice), Kevin (Eva) and Bill (Bea) Sweeney. He was preceded in departure by his parents, James and Helena Mae Sweeney, and son, Patrick Sweeney. Services will be held October 19, 2007 at 12:00 p.m. at St. Michael’s Church. In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Vincent Society in care of St. Michael’s Parish or a charity of your choice.
