Derry Suther

Obituary of Derry Erwin Suther

None Derry Erwin Suther We remember Derry Suther, 62, who passed away at home Saturday, July 28th, 2007. Derry was born July 16, 1945 in Dallas, Texas to Floyd Henry and Dorothy Jean (McCandless) Suther. He was a man who was an artist, a critical thinker, an intellectual, a hobbyist, and a craftsman. However, he didn’t consider any of these passing fancies, he felt like anything worth doing was worth doing right. He took that to heart with everything he did and threw himself into his interests mastering everything he touched. He was a founding member of the Olympia Model A club and had a love for rebuilding early model Ford cars. His love of music found him building his instruments himself. He loved the Puget Sound and all of its offerings, including sailing, fishing, and cooking his catch. He was a man who waited for Capitol Lake to be drained to reclaim a personally built remote control boat - which he fixed and re-sailed in typical Derry fashion. He understood sacrificing for the needs of family, relinquishing a documentary film career for more secure prospects. He retired in 1999 after 30 years of service to the state of Washington as a Public Health Advisor. He was a loving, supportive husband, first married to Ruth Westford, with whom he had 6 children. He has been married to his current wife Ann for the past 14 years. He had many friendships, was a doting grandfather, and father in law. He will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife Ann, his children Shawn, Ryan, Tia (Jeremy), and Patrick (Melissa); siblings Doug, Debbie and Dave; mother Dorothy; stepsons Doug (Kit), Bryan (Christine), Nathan (Sue) along with 11 grandchildren. Derry was preceded in death by his father, Floyd and two sons, Aaron and Keenan. You may leave your memories of Derry and condolences for the family by clicking on the "view guestbook" link below.
