Obituary of Curtis W. Stucki

Curtis W. Stucki On the 13th of February 2012, the life of Curtis William Stucki of Olympia, Washington ended at Providence St. Peter Hospital with his family by his side. He is survived by Elizabeth (Betsy), his wife of 34 years, and son, Peter (wife, Fontaine Phillips) of Bellingham, Washington. Curt was born on 24 October 1928 in LaCrosse, Wisconsin and was raised in Waukon, Iowa by the Rev. Frank E. and Hulda M. (Kehrli) Stucki. After serving our country in the Korean War, he received a BA degree from Cornell College and MA degree from the University of Oregon and MS degree from the University of Illinois. His accomplishments during his 40-year career as a librarian in the libraries of Cornell University, the University of Iowa, the University of Washington, the Washington State Library, and the Washington Department of Information Services continue to benefit the staff and patrons with his vision and ability to pull people together. Curt was a thoughtful and open-minded man, able and willing to speak with anyone about anything. His interests and activities changed over his life from being a forest lookout in Oregon and a hiker with The Mountaineers in the Cascades to collecting Inuit art and sculpture. He was one of the founding members of the Native Plant Society in Seattle; a mushroom hunter; a lover of films, especially foreign; a passionate philanthropist; a gardener; a music lover; a microbrewer; a collector of stamps, coins, and special books; an avid birdwatcher; and most of all, he was a beloved husband and father. He was loved and will be missed by all who knew him. Please leave memories of Curt or condolences for the family in the Guestbook below.
