Richard Stricklett

Obituary of Richard A. Stricklett

Richard Allen Stricklett, age 54, passed away peacefully in his home in Olympia on March 7th, 2010. He fought a very brave battle with a rare cancer. He was born March 18, 1955 in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He attended St. Michaels Elementary School and St. Martins High School in Olympia. He was an All Star field goal kicker. Richard is survived by his mother, Mary Stricklett, his son, Damon Stricklett, his daughter, Danielle (Nick) Akers, both of whom he had while married to Teresa Phelps, and a granddaughter, Trinity Cruz Stricklett. His siblings, Christopher, Michael, John, Timothy, Terrance, Susan Stricklett, Marianne Crosby and Denise Painter also survive. After high school, Rick became a union carpenter where he quickly excelled. He had a long and successful career as an extremely skilled carpenter. He was known as one of the most talented of the trade. He spent the majority of his life helping others; whether it was carpentry work or just assisting with anything. He was extremely generous and would do anything for his children, family and friends. He loved spending time with his granddaughter, Trinity, she gave him much joy. Rick loved the outdoors, riding his quad, fishing in Alaska, clam digging, hunting and taking walks in the woods behind his home. To say he will be missed by all is an understatement. He touched the lives of so many and no one could have asked for a better father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend. The family will have a small gathering with family and close friends at the Tyee Event Center, 5757 Littlerock Road SW, Tumwater on Sunday, March 14 at 12:00 pm.
