Obituary of Jeff G. Stone

Jeff Stone 5/16/1948-1/18/2008 Jeffery Grant Stone passed away January 18, 2008 at St. Peter Hospital, Olympia of complications from a chronic illness. Jeff is survived by his wife Julie (Olympia); son Joffery (Cally), grandchildren Jessica , Christopher, and Jenna Stone (Meridian, Idaho). He was proceeded in death by his father Julian “Jeff” who recently passed away December 1, 2007. He was also preceeded by his mother Dolly Stone and his sister Marsha Stone Ritchie. Jeff was born in Long Beach, California May 16, 1948. His family moved to Idaho in 1957 where he lived in Rigby, Ammon, and eventually Idaho Falls. He attended Idaho Falls High School and graduated in 1967. He later attended Idaho State University from 1967 to 1969. He married Kim Anderson May 1969. They had one son, Joffery James Stone. They later divorced. Jeff served in the army during the Vietnam era from 1969 to 1971 stationed in Frankfurt, Germany as a medical corpsman. In 1977, he married Julie Pieper in Salt Lake City, Utah. Throughout his life, Jeff was a salesman in a variety of fields from automobiles to real estate. The majority of his professional life was spent owning and operating denturist clinics in Utah and Olympia. Jeff, Julie and his father were active in organizing and founding the National Denturist Association in an effort to accredit their profession in the states of Oregon, Idaho and Utah. Growing up in Long Beach he loved the ocean; swimming, snorkeling and body surfing. He was somewhat dismayed about moving to the mountains of Idaho. However, he became an avid hunter, fisherman and downhill skier. He was, at the time, the youngest certified ski instructor in the state of Idaho. Jeff was a ski instructor at Kelly’s Canyon, Idaho and Park City, Utah. Though he was big in stature, people would say he was the most graceful skier they had ever seen. He also enjoyed golfing, camping and sailing. Being the adventurer he was, Jeff introduced the sport of hang gliding to Southern Idaho, operating the first hang glider school/dealership offering both instruction and equipment. In 1975, Jeff moved to Salt Lake City, Utah to pursue his career in the dental field. He and his wife Julie lived there until 1979 and relocated to Ogden and later Eden, Utah / Nordic Valley where they were able to enjoy the outdoor activities they loved. They left Utah in 1994 and relocated to Olympia where they became licensed denturists and opened Discovery Denture Center. In Washington, they were able to enjoy their love of the ocean and share adventures with their grandchildren. Jeff was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Olympia. He also belonged to the Washington State, National, and International Denturist Associations. What will be missed most is his quick wit, adventurous spirit, and boundless zest for life. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 28, 2008 at the Olympia Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 600 Overhulse Road NW, Olympia.
