Obituary of Richard Spears - Flemister

Richard Edward “Rick” Flemister-Spears, a resident of Olympia, Washington, died unexpectedly on Monday, May 8, 2006, at Evergreen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Olympia. Rick was born on October 19, 1946, in Louisville, Kentucky, to Artis Edward and Florence Ivory (Gay) Flemister. He attended St. Augustine Catholic Elementary School, Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Elementary School, and graduated from St. Xavier High School, Louisville, Kentucky, where he played football and sang in the Glee Club, in 1964. He had lived in Yakima, Washington, from 1991-1995, and Clinton, Washington, from 1994-2004. On June 18, 1988, he married Sandy G. Lawrence VonBargen. He had worked as a Respiratory Therapist from 1966 to 2004, for many companies including Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, Centralia, and Yakima. Rick enjoyed surfing on the computer, golf and travel. He was a member of the American Association of Respiratory Care (AARC) and the American Lung Association. In addition to his wife, Sandy, survivors include his mother, Florence Whiteside of Radcliffe, Kentucky; his son, Corey A. Spears of Seattle, Washington; daughters, Dina Lorraine Flemister and Erica Lynn Waller, both of Louisville, Kentucky, and Alyssa Hubeler of West Virginia; a brother, Forrest Flemister of California; 4 grandchildren, 1 great-granddaughter, and 1 great-great-granddaughter, many nieces, a nephew, and a host of cousins. Rick was preceded in death by his father, Artis Edward Flemister in 1994, and by his first wife Gloria Jean (Garvin). Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2006 5:00 p.m. in Radcliffe, Kentucky. 2:00 p.m. at Evergreen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Olympia The family respectfully requests that memorials be made in the form of donations to the American Lung Association in Rick’s name.
