Obituary of Leota M. Sonne

Leota M. Sonne Leota passed away May 13, 2012. She was born December 30, 1922 in Mitchell, South Dakota. The youngest of four children, she enjoyed her girlhood years in South Dakota. She graduated from Letcher High School and Southern Normal in Springfield. In Letcher, she met the love of her life, Sylvan Sonne. They were married in Vancouver, Washington on December 8, 1945. They celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary before Sylvan’s passing on January 7, 2010. Leota and Sylvan made their home in Olympia since 1945, living first on the east side and, for the last 34 years, on Long Lake. Leota worked as a teacher in South Dakota and as an accountant for the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services, retiring in 1979. Leota was an active, lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi. Leota was the mother of Sylvia Sonne Roberts (Bill); grandmother of Dr. Deanne Roberts; sister-in-law of Ila Thunberg; aunt to Connie Gilchrist, Carol Walker (Dick), Joanne Whitney (Dan), Gwen and Brad Van Laecken, Sheila Terry (George), Sandie Phillips (Ray), and Kenneth Sonne (Melissa); and many great nieces and nephews. Leota was preceded in death by her sister and brothers, Loriane, Joseph and Urban. We love you, Mom, and know you will always be with us.
