Obituary of Leonard S. Snyder

Leonard S. Snyder, 78, a 14-year resident of Lacey, died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004. He was born Oct.3, 1926 to Jack and Lottie (Apstein) Snyder, in Brooklyn, New York. He married his wife of 56 years, Pauline (Stein) on June 20, 1948. He served in the US Navy during WW II. He graduated from the University of Wis., Madison, in Electrical Engineering. Leonard worked for IBM in Poughkeepsie, NY in the early days of computers, working on the design of the 702 Main Frame Computer. He had several patents in his name at IBM. He received his MBA from the University of Wis. in 1974. He then worked for the State of Wisconsin. He lived in Madison, and then Milwaukee until retiring to Lacey. He was a Duplicate Bridge Life Master, and an avid football and Wisconsin hockey fan. It was a good weekend when both the Badgers and the Packers won. He also enjoyed world travel, especially cruising. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Nancy Snyder (Gary Schneider), Olympia; a granddaughter, Hannah; a grandson, Nicholas, of the family home; a brother, Monroe Snyder, of Florida; and several cousins. A daughter, Karen "Rosemary", preceded him in death. Memorial donations may be made to the Thurston County Food Bank or Hands On Children’s Museum. A private family service will be held.
