Obituary of Olive Mae Smith

Olive Mae Smith (Ahrens) 1928-2007 Olive M. Smith passed away on December 25, 2007, in Olympia, Washington, surrounded by her family, following complications suffered from a stroke. Olive, daughter of Otto and Otelia Ahrens, was born in Columbus, Nebraska on May 25, 1928. She later lived and worked in Montana, California, and Germany, where she met and married Colonel James F. Smith (U.S. Air Force). They moved to Washington, D.C., and later relocated to Spokane, Washington, where Olive worked as a legal secretary for the law firm of Lukins and Annis, P.S. After retiring, she volunteered with Habitat for Humanity. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her stepson, Jay F. Smith of Roswell, New Mexico. She is survived by her brother, Warren Ahrens and his wife Eva, of Falls Church, Virginia; two stepdaughters, Catherine Rohman and her husband Jeffrey of Olympia, Washington and Sue Dahedl and her husband Larry of Stacy, Minnesota. A service will be held at a later date in Fort Worth, Texas. In lieu of flowers the family requests that remembrances be made to Spokane Habitat for Humanity, 732 N. Napa Street, Spokane, WA, 99202.
