Obituary of Anna M. Smiley

Anna Smiley Anna M. (Ohm) Smiley, 86, of Rochester, Wash., formerly of Brownsmead, died Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011, in Rochester, of cancer. She was born July 10, 1925, in Austin, Wash., to Beda and John Ohm. She attended Langley High School. On May 27, 1955, she married Stephen E. Smiley. He survives, residing in Rochester. Mrs. Smiley was employed in civil service. She was also a farmer and homemaker. She resided in Whidby Island, Tukwilla and Renton, Wash., and in Brownsmead from 1968 to June 2011, when she moved to Rochester. She was a member of the Brownsmead Grange, and volunteered at the Brownsmead Corn Feed for many years. She was also involved with Home Extension and Taking Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) of Warrenton. Family members said she loved butterflies, making jam, canning vegetables, spending time with family and friends and raising Yorkshire Terrier “Yorkie” dogs. She also loved crafts and writing letters and cards. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Dorene and Randy Short of Oakville, Wash., Caryn and Rick Miletich of Vernon, B.C.; a son and daughter-in-law, Greg “Toby” and Debi Smiley of Clatskanie; two sisters, Elsie Ball of Seattle and Emma Endicot of Freeland, Wash.; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Ruth Ohm of Redmond, Wash.; five grandchildren, Adam Surface, Mandy Johnson, Olga and Mathew Miletich and Beda Brown; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Elmer Ohm. A memorial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at First Lutheran Church in Astoria. A private graveside service will be held at Bayview Cemetery on Whidby Island. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Lutheran Church, 725 33rd St., Astoria, OR 97103.
