Obituary of Alyce Christine Smerdon

Alyce C. Smerdon Alyce Christine Smerdon, 75, of Olympia, passed away suddenly from a pulmonary embolism on December 1, 2007. Alyce was born on January 10, 1932 to Arthur and Francis (Underwood) Nelson. She is survived by her husband, Glenn; a son, Scott and his wife Joella; and three grandchildren, Alissa, Bonnie and Curtis. Alyce attended Stadium High School and graduated from Tacoma General Hospital School of Nursing in 1953. She worked for several years as registered nurse at Tacoma General and for physicians in private practice. She married Glenn in 1959 and they moved to Olympia in 1961. After her son was born, Alyce chose to stay at home as a full-time mother and homemaker. Her nursing skills were put to use again when she cared for her invalid mother at home for over ten years. Alyce enjoyed spending time with her friends, gardening with her husband and spending time with her grandchildren. She especially cherished her schooling and work. She maintained close contacts with the other Class of 1953 nursing graduates over the years. She will be remembered as a loving wife and mother, devoted friend and cherished grandmother.
