Douglas Slosson

Obituary of Douglas L. Slosson

Douglas L. Slosson August 6, 1970~January 14,2012 What words can truly describe the loss of this incredible man who touched so many lives? He possessed an energy unlike any other and will be sorely missed by all that knew him. Doug was 4th generation to attend Boston Harbor Elementary. He attended Reeve's Middle School and Olympia High School, graduating in 1988 (graduating in part due to his grandma Jennie calling the school excusing him for being late; the attendance secretary was on first name basis with her). He shared so many precious memories growing up in the Boston Harbor Community and continued the tradition by raising his own family there. He was always full of adventure and was a strong athlete through his younger days, playing soccer, baseball, wrestling and football. Doug's grandfather, Richard Giles, passed away in 1987. This was a deep loss for Doug as his grandfather was his closest companion, mentor and friend. During this time, Doug began working in the landscape industry. In 1991, he went out on his own, creating his first business, Harbor Landscaping. Doug's artistic talent can be seen throughout several counties and his work ethic can be held against no other. He was always one to do more, and give more. He had the unique ability to look at a mud-filled pile of dirt and walk away with a masterpiece. Doug married Becky Lovett in 1992, taking on the role of husband and father to Cody. He never missed a beat. In addition, he had a son, Nate, daughter, Kate, and in 2010, grandson Rylan. No words can describe the type of father be became. He was the master of spontaneity and pure fun! This energy could be seen in his many adventures through the woods at Woodard Bay. He was always able to make something out of nothing and, as often as he worked hard, he played hard. He left us as a proud father, and so many of his traits and characteristics can be seen in all three of his children. He has created a legacy that will most definitely be a comfort to us all in the days to come! Those who knew him can only express Doug's never-ending willingness to help. He had the ability to smile, joke and laugh, and bring anyone up if they were down. He was one to live in the moment and make the best of any situation. He was an avid outdoorsman and could also be seen throughout the summer, launching his boat from Boston Harbor Marina with Kate (and six of her closest friends) for a day on the bay. This was his most favorite past time and, of course, enjoying the sunset run! Doug was a shooting star, burning bright amidst the darkness. He will be held high in all our memories. Doug was preceded in death by his grandfather, Richard Giles; and grandparents, Bill and Eileen Slosson. Doug is survived by his grandmother, Jennie Giles; aunt, Rhonda Giles; uncles, Jim and Steve Slosson; father and mother, Larry and Nyla Slosson; brother, Lance Slosson; wife of 18 years, Becky; children, Cody, Nate and Kate; grandson, Rylan; and numerous cousins. Family and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Doug on January 22, at 2:00 p.m., at Olympia High School (Commons), 1302 North Street, Olympia, WA 98501. The family is requesting donations be made to the Doug Slosson Memorial Fund at the Washington State Employees Credit Union.
