Obituary of Robert L. Silverman

Robert L. Silverman Robert L. Silverman, 95, passed away September 3, 2011 in Lacey, Washington. He was born to Harry and Bertha Silverman on August 13, 1916, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was the youngest of five children, all of whom preceded him in death. As a child, he attended a summer camp on Lake Erie where one of his counselors was Jesse Owens who advised him to “keep fit." His early career began with West Coast Theaters in the Los Angeles area during which time he saw and met many well known people in the industry. On July 26, 1942, he enlisted in the United States Army at Fort MacArthur. He eventually rose to Master Sergeant prior to leaving the service on February 16, 1946. In December of 1946, he began his civilian career with the United States Army where he eventually became the first and only civilian Comptroller for the United States Army in Japan for 16 years. Following his retirement in 1974, he embarked on a journey of 7,000 miles that led him to Lacey, Washington, where he would live out the rest of his life. Robert was very interested in politics and finance. He was an excellent manager of resources. He was a Master Mason. He is survived by his wife Doris, to whom he was devoted, and numerous nieces and nephews. Robert was liked and respected by many people, and he left us with great memories and much wisdom.
