Obituary of Winnie M. Shull

Winnie M. Shull Winnie, 87, of Olympia, Washington passed away peacefully at Garden Courte Memory Care on Saturday, June 9, 2012, with family by her side. Winnie was born on January 18, l925 in Sauk Centre, Minnesota to William and Clara Hansen. After high school, she moved in 1943 to Seattle, Washington to work for Boeing in Data Processing. Two years later, Winnie relocated to Olympia, Washington where she was employed by the Department of Employment Security. Here, she met Larry Shull, whom she later married in 1946. They were together for 29 years and had a family of six daughters. Winnie later worked for the State of Washington in the Department of Corrections and Board of Industrial Appeals, prior to her retirement at age 70. Winnie was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Evelyn Thielen and Wilma Paul; and daughter, Susan Hoke of Rock Island, Illinois. She is survived by Larry Shull of Olympia; her daughters, Eileen Staples, WynneAnn Hagstrom (Linn), Gennine Scuderi (Rob), Diane Carden (Don), and Laurene Brown; 13 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Winnie’s interests included her many cats over the years, her neighbors, gardening, and needlework. She especially loved to read. She most enjoyed, however, keeping in touch with her girls, who will always remember her tremendous love and concern for them and their families. Her smile and sense of humor will never be forgotten by her loved ones. Winnie, unselfishly, would drop everything to attend to the needs of her kids. She went to help after the births of many of her grandchildren, and stayed as long as needed. Winnie was a longstanding member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Olympia, on 11th and Boundary SE. Donations may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association or to St. Michael Catholic Church at 1208 11th Ave. SE, Olympia, WA 98501. The family wishes to thank Lew Brown for his loving care and Joan and Jerry Aarts for their help and friendship to Winnie and also express their gratitude to the many loving staff members at Garden Courte for their excellent care. “I shall pass through this world but once. Any good therefore that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it. For I shall not pass this way again.” Please leave memories of Winnie or condolences for the family in the Guestbook below.
