Skyler Scott

Obituary of Skyler Cameron Scott

Skyler Cameron Scott Skyler, or Sky, a vast and ever-shifting mosaic of clouds and golden sunlight. Cameron, a lyrical stream that originates high in the meadows of the Olympic mountains before joining the Gray Wolf and Dungeness rivers in a short run to the sea. These were his namesakes, but also the essence of the swiftly flowing ten years of his life. He taught us to love deeply; to treasure, nurture, and protect the natural world; and in his 4-year battle with cancer, a powerful courage and optimism that humbled all who knew him. His smile, his laugh, his thoughtfulness, and his wonder will always be with us. Skyler loved animals (including Pokemon); Lego models; KitKat bars; frogs; science experiments & potions; lakes, rivers, and the ocean; Yu-Gi-Oh; movies; Aunt Otter, Uncle Chunk, and Nana; books; bugs, snakes, lizards and mice; Stream Team camp; light saber battles; Anacortes; dragons; working with clay and silly putty; spending money; his frog quilt; family gatherings; “Daniel” the many-colored monkey; making new friends; Camp Goodtimes; the savanna at Walt Disney World; Harry Potter; Kelly the Irish Setter; school and his teachers; Kalaloch beach; inventing gismos; Star Wars; Yellowstone park; horseback riding; Blueberry Bash; visiting Grandpa; Halloween; swimming; his stuffed animals; math; fishing; his Space Needle statue; eagles; the forest; piano music; and ShiShi, the sound of waves on the beach, “I was born to live here”, he said. His brother was his very best friend. He liked to think about the future and what he wanted to do when he grew up. He wanted to be an adventurer; to discover new places and see new things. He loved to blaze trails to Frye Cove with his friends. He worried about the environment and how to keep it healthy. In celebration of Skyler Scott’s life, a casual al fresco gathering is planned for 2:00 pm Sunday, October 8, at the Carlyon Beach Park and Clubhouse, 2719 Island Dr. NW. (end of Steamboat Island Road). Attendees should dress gaily, for this will be a celebration of the joy Skyler brought to our lives. Skyler is survived by his brother, Julian; Mom Teresa and Dad Jim; Nana Sally Scott; Grandpa Bill Clocksin (Gail); Aunt Autumn Scott (Chuck Easton); Uncles Mike Clocksin (Ann) and Don Clocksin (Betty Ramage); numerous cousins; and his friends and teachers at Griffin School. Grandparents Vernita Clocksin and Jim Scott, Sr. preceded him in death. Remembrances can be made in Skyler’s name to the National Childhood Cancer Research Foundation Children’s Oncology Group (www.curesearch.org), Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Nature Conservancy, or the Griffin School Foundation.
