Obituary of Marvin Schoch

Marvin “Marv” Nicholas Schoch Marvin “Marv” Schoch, 75, died Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at his home. Marv was the oldest son of Valentine and Catherine Schoch. He was born on a summer day in August 27, 1933 and spent his early years on a farm near Sheffield, North Dakota. In the early summer of 1937, Marv’s parents sold the family farm moved west to Yakima, Washington. Marv attended Marquette High School in Yakima, Washington. After one year at Gonzaga University, Marv was drafted into the military during the Korean conflict. He served two years in the U.S. Army as a medic. Soon after his discharge, Marv met the love of his life, Arletta “Letty” Paddock. They were married on April 19th, 1958. Marv and Letty started their family in Yakima and later moved to Olympia, WA in 1968. Marv was employed by Washington State Department of Transportation for 27 years and the U.S. Government, Public Works in Fort Lewis, WA for 10 years. Marv had many hobbies including hiking and traveling. He enjoyed sailing in the Puget Sound. During the winter months, he spent time in Arizona. Some of Marv’s favorite pastimes were watching his children’s sporting events. He loved tinkering around his shop creating wooden toys, tea boxes and church keys. He was a loyal Seattle Mariner’s fan and could not wait for the baseball season to begin. Marv was involved in German’s from Russian Heritage Society. Marv is survived by six children, Susan Kormondy, Stephen (Connie) Schoch, Scott (Dawn) Schoch, Stephanie (Jeff) Williams, Stuart Schoch, all from Olympia and Samuel (Liz) Schoch from Phoenix, AZ. Marv dearly loved his grandchildren Michael, Andrea, Laura, Erin, Libby, Brandon, Stacy, Lynn and Ashlyn. Marv is also survived by his two brothers, Jim (Mary) Schoch and Bob (Lois) Schoch; four sisters, Joan (Dick) Snyder, Vickie Schmidt, Kathy Schoch and Michele (Walter) Fourness. Preceding his death, Marv had two brothers, Joseph and Hubert Schoch; his parents, Valentine, Catherine and wife, Letty, who sadly passed away in the fall of 2003. Everyone who met Marv, truly enjoyed his gentle smile, kind words and loyalties. He will truly be missed by all. We love you, Dad.
