Obituary of Ella K. Schmidt

9:00 a.m. Fri. May 23, 2008 Prior to service time Ella Karolina Schmidt Ella Karolina Schmidt crossed peacefully to the other side surrounded by her family on May 18th. What a beautiful reunion she is having with loved ones that crossed before her. She was born to German immigrant parents, Alexander and Emma Buchmann during a blizzard on January 20th 1915. She was the first of 13 children. She married the love of her life Gustav Schmidt on July 24th 1935. They had six children. Ella saw extraordinary changes during her long life, from traveling by horse and buggy to seeing the first man on the moon and beyond. She was a fabulous cook and made sure no one left her home without a home made German meal and a full stomach. Her first question to guests was 'did you eat' and whether the answer was yes or no she would be whipping up a sumptuous German meal fit for a king. The kitchen was the heart of her home and that is where everyone gathered, the coffee pot was always on. The first thing that comes to mind when thinking of her is that she was a LADY in every sense of the word. She was always meticulous with her appearance and grooming to the end. You would never see her without her beautiful silver hair in perfect order or without her rings, earrings and jewelry on. She loved dressing in her pretty outfits. She loved babies and children and could always sooth a crying baby or sick child. She had a magic touch and they sensed it. Her sense of humor was one of a kind and she could always put a smile on the face of those around her. She didn't know a stranger and everyone that met her felt the love she radiated. She loved her life and family and we all loved her back. If you told her you loved her she would always say I Love You More! She was preceded in death by her husband and 2 children, Geraldine Stapp and Kenneth Schmidt, grandson Lance Hull several brothers and a sister. She leaves behind with cherished memories: her Daughters Betty Varpness; Janice Schmidt; Donna Hull and her Son Dallas (Flora) Schmidt; 3 sisters, 3 brothers, 15 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, 11 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Her loving generous spirit and joy for life will continue to sustain us all; her blessed memory will remain forever in our hearts. She remained positive despite her struggles with her illness and her spirit remained strong to the end. She will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched. A special thank you to her caregivers Lea and Rocky, they became like family to her. Also, a heartfelt thank you to Hospise. Sleep good Mother Goose, we will miss you until we meet again!
