Franz Schlottmann will be remembered as not only my grandpa but as a 2nd father to me, he was the one that showed the thing good from bad growing up, all those great times helping him with wood or mowing the lawn, and much more, so for that i will always miss him.

Uncle Franz will always be missed and never forgotten. We will remember his special laugh, his love of wood working, the Sandman rides, the generosity of his time and knowledge, his love of friends, family and family history. Uncle Franz was a truly great man.

Dear Schlottman family,
I have many memories over the years of Franz, beginning with his digging a long drainage ditch in 1960 at our Fishtrap camp site on the bay. I'm sure that our four, then, kids still remember the ride given them high in the air in Franz's loader. Such good memories sustain us in this world. All my very best to family members and close friends of this great man.

As a neighbor kid back in the early '70s, Franz would let my twin
brother and I along with his nephew Matt, play in some of his old cars, not his prized Packards though. We loved to jump in his hay loft, though he'd sometimes give us heck for messin' it all up. One day, when we were good, he let us climb behind the wheel of his mint Packard Clipper! I'll never forget that.

Here was truly a great man--loved and honored by family and friends. We and our children remember the July 4th celebrations we were able to share. "Little" Franz felt privileged to pilot the Sandman with Uncle Franz at his side. One particular memory we have is of coming into Olympia and stopping at a little cafe before seeing any family. What a surprise when Uncle Franz and several grandchildren showed up to have their Saturday morning breakfast together. We were able to share time with them all. Uncle Franz knew the value of time spent together. Aunt Jean, Jay, Lisa, and the grandkids...our love and prayers are with you.

I didnt know Uncle Franz as well as everyone else, but I do know I enjoyed talking to him everytime we came up to the reunions. And I loved him very much, and though this is a sad event for us here on earth, it is a joyous time for him, because he has reached the ultimate goal we strive for on earth, to get to heaven. And Im sure he is having a great time up there talking with God and with all the loved ones who went before him, on the most perfect tugboat there could ever be.

We remember the ride on the Sandman, that is actually a highlight of our extended family memories. But even more than that was how constant of a presence Uncle Franz was at EVERY family function. We didn't get to attend as many of them as we'd have liked to, but one thing you could count on, was that Uncle Franz would be there. I enjoyed talking with him...he truly was a great man. He will be missed.

there'll never be anyone just like Uncle Franz again. What a loss of a great man. I have lots of neat memories of him, and so do my kids. One thing we will never forget is when he and Aunt Jean visited Johnny every week during his illness. There were always fresh flowers from Aunt Jean's yard. That was so special, and made Johnny feel special. He loved Uncle Franz very much. Thank you.
Aunt Jean, after this time of grieving, you'll have so many wonderful memories that will bring you comfort. Don't hesitate to share them. Take care, Terry

You are going to be dearly missed, Uncle Franz. We enjoyed talking with you about the 'remodled' maritime museum in Astoria, we were hoping you would get down to see it.
Now, God not only has a 'captain' for his 'gospel ship', but He also has two of the 'BEST' machine operators from Washington. Now, you and Daddy can prepare our 'family' land for us up there, while Momma and Momzie does the cooking for when you guys are done working for the day. Now God has His own construction crew there. Thank you for you and Daddy 'teaching' me how to flag, that is one occupation, that I tried to teach others and install into them the same knowledge of flagging that you and Daddy had taught me. We will miss you ALOT, but we know you are better now, no more pain, sadness or sickness will you ever see. For that we are happy, but to know, we are going to miss you very much!
We will see you soon, with our Father.
Love you much and missing you.

Dear Mrs. Schlottmann,
Helen and I extend our deepest sympathy to you and your family over Franz's passing. We have known you folks from the time of our arrival in Olympia in 1962. Franz did some work for us when we lived on Ebb Tide Terrace back in 1963 and at the store building many times during the intervening years. He was always a faithful customer at the store, as was your family, all the years we had the store. A truly dear old friend has passed away and he will be missed.

Though I didn't know Uncle Franz all that well, I read and had heard many stories about him. I will miss seeing him at the gatherings. There will be a day when I will see him again...until then.....I Love You!
