I just found the obituary as I was surfing for old acquaintances. I volunteered and later was on staff at the Fan Free Clinic in Richmond. Norma was a wonderful woman that taught me so much. She came into my life as my own mother was dying. Norma's compassion and strength of conviction helped me to become a far better person.

I was doing a search for Norma and just found her obituary. :( I volunteered at the Fan Free Clinic back in the '70s. I loved Norma! She was fantastic at what she did--a true inspiration. Such a warm, loving person. I have thought of her often over the years.

Hi to Rob, David, Eric, and your family members!
Yesterday, when I submitted my message, I did not catch my 2 errors. They are: 1. I actually met Norma for the first time at Rob and Shirley's wedding in Seattle, WA. and 2. Norma was the paternal grandma to Sarah and Ben.
Sorry guys.
See you all on August 8th.
Love,
Tien

I am so sad to read this. My prayers, such that they are, are for Norma's family. Norma challenged us all (Fan Free Clinic volunteers, RAIN volunteers, all of Richmond really) to step out of ourselves and be present with and for others. A beautiful woman with intense passion, dedication & a lovely laugh, she was able to make Richmond, Northern California and, I am sure, Washington state better places for all those who had the privilege to know her and, perhaps more importantly, all of those who did not.

Dear Rob, David, Eric, and your family members:
I am so sorry to hear of Norma's passing on July 7th.
The first time I met Norma was in Berkeley, CA, shortly after my niece, Sarah, was born. I said to myself, how lucky for my sister, Shirley, to have such a great mother-in-law, like Norma. She was a very out going lady. She did not speak ill of anyone. We bonded right away. She made great Southern Fried Chicken. Sarah and Ben were lucky to have grown up and mentored by their maternal grandma, Norma. I shall miss you, Norma. Rest in Peace.
Love, Tien

Dear Family,
Although I haven't seen your lost loved one since our graduation from TJHS in 1954 I remember her well as a kind, considerate person who I never heard speak ill of anyone.
The world was a better place beause of her and the gates of Heaven shine a bit brighter from her passage through them.

So sad to hear of Norma's death. But so many memories and feelings of gratitude are mine because of our relationship through the Clinic. Were just one person able to receive credit for that its existence, it would have to be Norma. She was the inspiration, strength and yes, the soul of the clinic. I firmly believe that were it not for Norma and those led and inspired by her, the clinic would not have survived. So many were blessed by her and now so many lives have been deminished by her death. Yet, her love and influence will never die because of those lives she touched.
I am so thankful that she came into my life.
My deepest sympathy to the family.

Norma was a truly phenomenal woman and I will always be thankful for her friendship, her advice, her wit & humor. There are so many memories buzzing around my head like happy bees - the Fan Free Clinic days, selling art on the streets of San Francisco, drinking coffee in Berkeley, the yellow CJ7 that still lives here. She made me laugh, made me think and inspired me to be a little more fearless when it came to life, people and art. Eric and Laura, David and Beth, Rob and Shirley and all the kids - you are in our thoughts and prayers, sending much love your way from all of the Peple family - Margaret, Jane, Lyn & Chuck.

This is very sad and my thoughts are with Norma's family. With humor and thoughtful insight she challenged us to be engaged rather than apathetic. She possessed a natural ability to inspire others to get involved. The world is a better, more joyful and just place because of her. I am a better person for having known her.

Just heard about Norma's passing today, and it's just such a sad thing to hear. So many memories and good times. I considered Norma a mentor as well as a friend. Had only seen her once after she left Richmond , we spent a beautiful sunny day walking around Berkeley with her little granddaughter. Norma was a true pioneer and a beautiful spirit and will be remembered always.

I worked with Norma for many years at the Fan Free Clinic. We became good friends and spent a lot of time together during those years, sitting on her porch and watching the world and commenting on it, or at Joe's Inn with greasy sandwiches and a crowd of people. I loved Norma then and still love her today, and I will treasure the memories of our times together, both working to help the people who didn't have the funds for health care, and playing together here and there along the way. Her humor and down to earth honesty made every situation survivable. I am sorry for your loss, and the loss for all of us who were lucky enough to have her in our lives. Please share the information on the remembrance service. Connie

Dear David, Rob, Eric:
I was saddened to read of your Mom's death. It's funny, somewhere around the day she passed, my wife, Kathy, and I drove around by your old house on W. 43d Street. Of course, I was flooded with memories of Norma, Bob and the three of you. There's an old saying about people sometimes needing to be bigger and older than they are. In her time in Richmond, your Mom certainly taught me how to do this, and still hang on to my sense of childish wonder and fun. Even as I write this and feel so sad, I can still hear her booming laugh when she discovered we'd been sitting in a patch of poison ivy while on some sort of field trip one summer day so long ago. We, the world is so much better, bigger, more beautiful for her life. Love to each of you and your families.

Dear Rob and Family,
I hadn't realized that Norma was so ill. I will definitely miss her. She was an inspiration to me and to others who belong to the Lewis County Democratic Party. As Treasurer, Norma bravely put out the figures and dealt with the books during numerous elections of federal, state, and local officials. Her volunteerism is a beacon for us all.
Most of all, she was a warm, soft-spoken women with a sharp wit and grasp of intricate situations...whom I admired.
My sympathies are with you in this trying time of being without Norma.

Dear David, Rob & Eric,
We had dinner with my brother Winston and his wife this past Friday and we were talking about Aunt Ruby and Bobby. The question arose if either of us had heard anything from Bobby's family recently. Little did we realize that Norma had died the previous day and her name would appear among today's Obituaries.
I am sure that all of you will miss Norma greatly, especially Rob and his family. May the "Good Lord God Almighty" richly bless you and comfort you during your time of sorrow.
