My parents gave me a copy of Nancy's obit. I went to school with Nancy at Oly High School. We were in Scouts together and Iworked at Taco Time. We spent many fun times together. Although I don't remember a whole lot about Nancy, I do remember how much fun she was and how much fun we had together. I have moved to Portland and gradated from U of P and work as a Hospice Nurse. From reading the messages here I expect that Nancy had Cancer. Could you tell me a little about her history and diagnosis? I am sad for your loss, I know how that feels. If you wish to respond you can reach me at aseaver@bctonline.com. It sounds like she really touched a lot of people's lives. Isn't it GREAT that she touched yours. Peace

It has been both a pleasure and and honor to have been able to work with and get to know Nancy for what is now more than a decade. I have never known anyone who's smile could be heard in their voice, and who could brighten one's day by their positive uplifting approach in everything that they did. If there was ever a role model for conducting oneself with dignity, respect for others, and zest for life, it would be Nancy. She touched so many of us in so many ways and she will be greatly missed. On behalf of myself, and everyone here at Remy-Cointreau USA we extend our prayers and heartfelt condolences to the entire Sauer family.....

From Glenda (and David) Nicholson Mirboo North Australia 1974-1980
Hi Susan and Nancy’s family and friends.
All of Nancy’s Aussi friends would love to be with you all at this time but the reality of distance makes that impossible. So I am writing this to help Nancy remember all the good times we had out here together . These are our my most vivid memories.
Everything was always associated with food. Nancy and I had a love of food and later in life it showed.
Nancy loved Cheeseburgers, when Macdonalds came to nearby Morwell she was ecstatic. Prior to that she always stocked up when she went to the city.
I remember her great pasta salad and it had to the special Best’s mayonnaise.
The pop rocks you sent her and we all had jumping in our mouths and the Hershey bars what a treat.
Nancy brought the USA to us in this small country town. We learnt about Halloween, Thanksgiving, 4th of July and who could forget those Easter egg hunts at her place. There were always decorations and special treats. I hope she brought some Australian traditions back to you.
Nancy was our beloved female physical and sport teacher. The kids loved her , the staff loved her. Memories of early mornings setting up before the swimming and athletic sports are at the forefront. Nancy had the ute that carried everything. Together with Bruce Fergie and Jan Scott the Mirboo North kids had a great team. Nancy brought the sporting best out in the students; her enthusiasm and zest for life and super organizational skills showed through from the cross country to the parties at her house.
We had primitive indoor facilities in the beginning but before she left she got to enjoy the wonderful new gymnasium. Nancy and I had a great time starting up a local badminton competition in our new gym which was a nice change from country halls where we hit the roof and the back line was up a wall. The competition is still thriving today over 20 years later.
In 1990 when we visited and met some of the family we understood where that humour came from. I particularly remember Papa Sokolik and the butter on the knife trick where he handed you the wrong end so you always got butter on you. We experienced the July 4th fireworks at the holiday house and as fireworks are now banned here it was a real treat for my kids. The hospitality led us to the brewery ( we have beer glasses to prove it ) and all the local scenic spots.
I am so glad the advent of email kept us back in touch over the last year or so after her letter writing dwindled away. The first email I sent said the only reason she had for not writing was if she had either got married had kids or both. She replied to say neither had happened, men in USA and Australia you missed out on a great gal!
The smile and those rosy cheeks we miss, we all loved you here as much as your family back home. We were all so disappointed that Nancy didn’t get to come to the reunion last year and now it seems that we may never get to see her again. My motto for life is now that it is better to know a great person for a short time than a lousy one for a long time.
Nancy you are a great person and a little bit of you has rubbed off on all of us. We will never forget you. Every time we use the Pooh bear sheets and the Disney ones we will remember you. Farewell Nancy from Australia hope we get to meet again some day. I am so sorry the prayers and tears didn’t help.
Much love Glenda,David, Brooke and Gareth Nicholson

You will be missed Aunt Nancy. I know that she wasn't my Aunt, but that is all that I knew her as because of Jared and Dusty. Although I didn't see her often, every time was a memorable one, especially if Aunt Susan was there too..lol. You put those two women together and you couldn't breathe because you were laughing so hard. Aunt Nancy, your dimples, smile, and laughter will never be forgotten.
My condolences to the whole family, especially Aunt Susan, Jared and Dusty. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Love, Kelly

Dear Nancy Alice's Family
Thank you all for organizing such a wonderfull tribute to Nancy's life this afternoon at Heritage Hall. It was truly something that turned out just as Nancy would have wished. I had the pleasure of working with Nancy for 20 years in the Purchasing Division of the Liquor Control Board. Whe she came to work for us in about the mid 1980's, we knew right away that she was very special and a great addition to our work unit. I was her boss until I retired in June 2004, and I really appreciated all that she contibuted over the years. We never even came close to having any conflicts---mainly because you always knew where Nacny stood. I really appreciated her team spirit and a lot of the things that she did such as decorating the office on every occasion from Valentines Day through the Christmas Holidays. She would even come in on her day off to do her decorating magic. She was truly loved and respected by all of us. The comments from the folks speaking this afternoon were from the heart and Nancy would have been happy to know that all of her many friends were there to celebrate her life. We will miss her very much. May you find peace in knowing she touched so many people in such positive ways.

My sympathy to the family. I knew Nancy from work. Although I did not work directly with her, I had an opportunity to see her almost daily. She always had this wonderful smile and was so cheerful, even on days that there was nothing to cheer about! She was a very special person and will be missed by all who knew her. The heavens are blessed with a new angel - and I'm sure she has on a bright colored shirt and is making them all smile!

To the entire Sauer family, we would like to extend our heartfelt condolences! Nancy was one of a kind. She was a young woman when she watched our children on occasion. They had a lot of fun with her and looked forward to seeing her. She had a good head on her shoulders which an an early age, showed good breeding. Al & Pat, you're the best. We are so sorry you all had to go through such pain and sorrow. We love you all. May God bless and keep your family and give you strength and courage in this difficult time. Love, Don & Cathi Schafer

Mama & Papa Sauer, Susan, John and all the rest:
I am at a loss for words and just want to extend our love to all of you. Nancy was a special person with a cheerful spirit and beautiful smile. It was just a month ago I made Pig Cake for my bunco group and thought about the first time I ate it was when Nancy made it for some special occassion. Our July 4th's at the beach will be treasured forever! Fighting for the best jewels and playing nerts. Laughing and wearing our finest hats or jewels. I am truly blessed that I married into such a wonderful family who gave me an extended family with all of you. Marla la la will probably write on her own as I couldn't do justice. We Love YOU all and know that Nancy is in a better place and making heaven more colorful.

Dear Family, Everyone is so right about Nancy. She had the greatest smile and her laughter was unforgettable. Nancy was such a great friend in school and in Girl Scouts. I think the last time I saw Nancy was at American Lake. That was so long ago. My sister Kristie called and asked if I had heard of Nancy's passing. She told me that Nancy and Susan would come into Mega Foods together and her Mega Food friends are going to miss her. This is hitting so close to home since we grew up together in the same neighborhood.
Weldon Fink and family are also sending there condolences. My sister-in-law Barbra was just here on vacation and she too remembers your family at American Lake since her father Weldon use to work with Al. Once again, our deepest sympathy. Nancy will be missed.

A long time ago that now seems such a short time, I met a group of young women at Olympia High School. I was a young teacher just starting out and had the grand opportunity to learn from them. The one good thing I had was the good sense to know that they would teach me what I needed to know about "learnin' ". Nancy was within that group. She and her merry band of scouts taught me there is more to school than memory from books. The trip to Lower Leena ..freezing in the snow and laughing A LOT is not forgetable. Neither is Nancy. Thank you for your laughter and being genuine. After all these years......it is still appreciated.
