Dearest Nancy,
I've been thinking about you all day and I hope it went well at the Memorial. Due to a prior commitment I could not attend; you've been in my thoughts and prayers all day and I've been sending you energy and peaceful thoughts. I know your Mom is in a good place; I regret not being there for you, but please know that I'm there in spirit ~ and I know your Mom is watching over you with an enormous amount of love. I really think she is in a peaceful place. You are a special person to me (and many others) and I am privileged to know you; You are your Mother's legacy. You emit peace & veracity. Thanks for that ~ she carries on through you my dear friend.....see you around the drum with much love.

I loved Sally. I got to know her when I attended St. Luke's, she was so much a part of the church. When I thought of St. Luke's I would think of Sally. She was what a church member ought to be, I thought. A real person; she said what she meant, she was a hard worker and she was alot of fun. She loved the church. I was sad when she moved away, but I could keep in touch with her through Nancy, who is so much like her Mother. Sally was one of those rare and special people that everyone hopes to come across in their lifetime. I was lucky, I got to know her.

Sally was a second mom to me and my sister when we were growing up. I spent many happy days playing at the Ruckers’ house, and Sally’s welcoming kindness was a big part of that. Only later did I realize how much I learned from her and what a great role model she was, but at the time I just knew it was fun to be at her house. She somehow managed to be calm, elegant, kind, and funny, while taking care of her four very active and adventurous kids and their neighborhood friends. Her home was beautiful, warm and inviting, then and later on, wherever she lived. Sally had an amazing ability to make you feel comfortable and welcome, a wonderful talent she passed on to all four of her kids. I will always remember her smile and her gentle laugh. Her concern for others was evident in her politics; she was an outspoken activist against war and corporate greed and all their terrible effects, and an advocate for people helping each other and trying to make this a better world for all. Sally was a beautiful, wonderful friend, a woman who lived with style and grace, and I am very grateful to have had her in my life. She leaves the world a better place for the kindness she shared and the goodness she taught by example. I will miss her, and I will smile every time I think of her.

Mother,
Last night Nancy read your mother's journal entries aloud to us. Nancy has been very focused on family history. We read from the 1930 journal. You were 4 years old. You got your tonsils out when you were 4? Grandma Davis had a very busy life, lots of socializing and work. She was lucky that she had papa's mother living in the house, so she could get out and do things. We miss you mom.

Mom,
I'm sitting in your office e-mailing the class of 1944 and inviting them to read your obit. Tonight we ate steak and buttered egg noodles at your house. I love seeing your picture on this site---you smiling, waving and joyful. I think you are still alive! Bye for now---
Love,
Sara
