Mary and Don were among the first people we met when we moved to the neighborhood 21 years ago. They were both always kind and welcoming to our family. Mary crocheted a beautiful jacket for our daughter when she was born 17 years ago. Many mornings were spent on the corner waiting for the school bus and talking to the Rolstads, who always invited us up on their porch in bad weather. The fond memories are too numerous to tell about, but they will live on in our hearts.

I never met Mary. I worked with Don at DSHS for only a short time in 1975 or 1976. Don knew my husband and I prayed for a baby to come into our lives. When I finally had my son in 1978, a mutual friend came to me and gave me a gift. He said "Don's wife Mary made this for your baby. They are so happy for you." It is blue and pink flannel and was used daily by my son. We still have it. Bless your whole family. How lucky you have been to have such wonderful parents.

Dear Rolstad Family -
I am sorry for the loss of your parents and grandparents. Please know that Mary left the most wonderful legacy for our South Sound area youth. Olympia Junior Programs children's theater exits today in a large part due to Mary's vision and enthusiasm. She was a gracious, humble spirit devoted to all of you, her family. I am proud to have worked with Mary for many years. Her example taught me the true meaning of volunteering.
My thoughts are with you, Edith

Dear Family,
Scottie and I wish to send you our prayers and let you know you are being thought of in so many ways. Your family invited us over to their home when we first got to Olympia, got to see your dad's train collection and your mom served us ice cream. They were beautiful people and treated us so nicely and we never forgot their thoughtfulness. I last saw your mother at Pioneer and did go over to speak with her. She didn't recognize me. I knew something was not right. How sad that you lose both parents so close but I believe they wanted to go together. I also believe they will always be with you in spirit watching over their children and their grandchildren and great grandchildren. May God bless you all and please know our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Love,
Scottie, Diane & Family

Your parents will be missed by my entire family. I have many, many fond memories: Campfire after school, elephant quilt Mary made for my daughter, IOU's in my piggy bank from my dad when he went to many a poker game, and fabulous Christmas open houses with the santa cups and marvelous cookies! It's comforting to know your parents are together in heaven, and I wish your family peace during this really difficult time.

A big part of Mary still remains with Olympia Junior Programs. She kept the program going when things looked very bleak. We speak often of her. Her spirit and energy will always be with us.

I so enjoyed visiting with Don and Mary when I would be delivering their mail. They were such warm and loving people. It was a blessing for me to get to know them. I would sit on the porch swing with Mary and talk about life. Don he always greeted me with that amazing smile. My prayers are with the family but one thing I do know is that Don and Mary are with JESUS now. Boy are they enjoying themselves!!!
