Obituary of Col. George Rogers

Col. George “Mike” Vaughn Rogers, USAR Ret. Col. George “Mike” Rogers was born April 26, 1932 in Stevens Point, WI. He died in Olympia, WA November 24, 2008. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gertrude “Trudee” Bellemore Rogers and parents, Col. George F. Rogers (USA Ret.) and Lenore Vaughn Rogers. Col. Rogers is survived by his brothers, Col. Ellietson D. Rogers (USA Ret.), Moorehead City, NC and John H. Rogers, Cashmere, WA. George leaves behind daughter Julia Rogers Early (James D. Early) of Battle Ground, WA; son George B. Rogers of Centralia, WA; and granddaughter, Heather M. Early. Col. Rogers graduated from the United States Military Academy, West Point, NY in 1957, subsequently serving in the Air Defense Artillery state-side and in Germany, Korea and Viet Nam; during his service he earned the Combat Infantryman Badge, Bronze Star, and Distinguished Pistol Medal, among others. After retiring from the Army and settling in Bellevue, WA, George was a member of the US Army Reserve and worked as a civilian for the Department of Defense at Ft. Lawton and Ft. Lewis until retiring, with Trudee, to Lewis County. The family wishes to thank the staff at Merrill Gardens and his caregivers: Amelia, Ana and Char for their dedicated and compassionate care.
