Obituary of James D. Reed

James D. “Jimmy Dan” Reed, went Home to join the Lord on his 63rd birthday, Saturday, 24th of June, at his summer home in Brinnon, WA on the Hood Canal. Jim courageously fought a 4 year battle with esophageal cancer. He was born June 24, 1943 to James A. and Miriam E. (Lawton) Reed in Olympia. Jim lived his whole life around the Puget Sound. He graduated from Olympia High School in 1961. He was an avid boater and past member of the Olympia Yacht Club.
He was employed by Leica Geosystems, Inc of Norcross, GA since 1984, and was recently the VP of the Northwest Region. Leica of Switzerland manufactures and sells land surveying equipment.
Jim served our country in the United States Navy. He was stationed in the Philippines and later served on the USS Kitty Hawk during the Vietnam War.
He is preceded in death by his father, James A. Reed. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Reed of Brinnon; one son, Michael (Amber) Reed of Olympia; two daughters, Tina (Brian) Nielson of Arlington, WA and Ashley (Rick) Macbeth of Lynnwood, WA; his mother, Miriam E. Campbell of Olympia; one step-daughter, Michelle (Tracy) Sloan of Harrisonville, MO; three step-sons, Scott Harrell of Springfield, MO, Brent (Hope) Harrell of Rome, Italy, and Lance Harrell of Orlando, FL; a step-sister, Christy Dorr; and step- mom, Thelma Reed; step-brothers, Jim Good and Jeff Sayer. He dearly loved and enjoyed his 10 grandchildren, Autumn, Austin, Aaron, Alec, Samuel, Keegan, Kyleigh, Isabella, Olivia and Helen. Jim is also survived by his mother-in-law, Doris (Robert) Wayman, Boise, Idaho and his father-in-law and families of, Justin (Pat) Mauck of Meridian, Idaho. He is survived by his Uncle Ed and Aunt LaVaughn Anderson and their families of many beloved cousins: Shirley Hauschild, Sharon Smith, Karen (Gene) James, Lynnea (Rick) Hansen. His extended families of Mr. & Mrs. Allen Mauck, Mr. & Mrs William Roberts.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, June 29, 2006 at Westwood Baptist Church, 333 Kaiser Rd. NW, Olympia 98502. Family viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m.. A graveside service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Masonic Memorial Park, 455 North St. SE, Tumwater 98501. Family & Friends are invited to attend a catered meal at the Schmidt Mansion following the graveside service.
