Obituary of Evelyn Carlene Puckett

Evelyn Carlene Puckett Evelyn (Nottage) Puckett passed quietly in her sleep in the early morning of June 29, 2006. Evelyn joined her sister, Jeannette, and her parents, Lela and Charles Nottage of Olympia, on August 15, 1929. Life has come full circle, and they are now together again. While attending William Winlock Miller High School, she was a soprano in the Glee Club, sang in a KGY broadcast performance at the Liberty Theater, and graduated in 1947. She worked in banking, befriending many in her position as teller, and then as a manager. Evelyn then challenged herself with a career move and took on real estate, which she enjoyed until retiring in 1986. Evelyn married Dorn J. Carey of Olympia in July of 1948. They had two children, Denise L. (Carey) Worthington and Dennis J. Carey, who survive her. The marriage ended in divorce, and Evelyn remarried Frank M. Puckett of Cincinnati, Ohio in June of 1963. This union brought Michael L. Puckett and Patrick J. Puckett into the world, also surviving. Evelyn is also survived by four grandchildren. Evelyn's marriages included much travel. Her first marriage started with a coast-to-coast excursion pulling their home behind them for a two-year stay in New York. In her second marriage, she found herself in Germany via an eight-day sea voyage across the Atlantic Ocean. During her four years in Europe she traveled whenever possible, collecting coins and fond memories. When asked what made her happy, Evelyn answered without hesitation, "my children". Evelyn wished to be cremated and her remains laid to rest with those of her parents and her sister at Masonic Memorial Park, 455 North Street, Tumwater, Washington. At her request, there will be a private family memorial to celebrate her life.
