Obituary of Walter Pieren

No visitation Walter Pieren Walter Pieren died of natural causes Friday, November 16, 2007 at Panorama Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center, Lacey, Washington. He was born September 5, 1917 in Winlock, Washington. His parents, Sophie and Frederick Pieren, were immigrants from Adelboden, Switzerland. He was the eighth of nine children. Living in many areas of Washington State, the family moved in 1932 to what was known as the Dempsey Ranch at Delphi near Olympia. Here he attended Olympia High School. Walter worked many years as a Mason Tender for bricklayers and later in the frozen herring business. He was an avid gardener, feeding family and friends from his very large organic garden. During World War II, Walter served in the United States Army, Military Police Battalion. He was a member of the Veteran's of Foreign War and Laborer's Union 252. He is survived by his beloved wife, Lois Cohn Turner Pieren; Sister, Laura Malleck (Paul); step-children, Barbara Grunkemeier, John (Linda) Turner, Arthur (Donna) Turner; eight grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren, and many much loved nieces and nephews. A service in his memory will be held Friday, November 30, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 9th and Washington Streets in downtown Olympia. Graveside service will he held Monday, December 3, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. at Delphi Pioneer Cemetery. The family requests donations may be made to your charity of preference.
