Obituary of Alice Phillips

Alice Lillian Phillips 1921-2009 Alice L. Phillips, 88, of Olympia died July 1st at Capital Medical Center in Olympia. She met the Lord while embraced in the arms of her family. She was born in Tolt, January 26, 1921, daughter of Olga and Thomas Maloney. She raised her family in Olympia while being active in the Catholic Church her whole life. Her greatest joy was watching the Mariners, sharing with others her deep appreciation for God's word and her love for her Creator. She was a devoted servant, a faithful friend, and a good neighbor. Alice was a wonderful wife, mother, grandma, great grandma and great-great grandma. She was loved by all and will be dearly missed. As an LPN Alice cared for many and retired from nursing at Evergreen Convalescent Center in 1981. She was well respected and admired by all who knew her. She married George Phillips the year she retired. They enjoyed years of traveling, fishing, and outings with friends including the Viking Ship of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, where George was a member. Alice often called herself Cathlute. As a long term member of St. Michael’s, she served on the building committee for the West Side church and was instrument in advising on the design, especially the kitchen. She was active in bible study and served as a sacristan, Eucharistic minister, lector, and kitchen activities co-coordinator. Many saw her as a pillar of the church as she was active in all aspects of the Westside church including authoring the Westside Story, a newsl;etter of the community for years. Alice was a strong loving woman who was always there for family and friends through joyful times to celebrate and difficult times to support. She will be grately missed by all who knew her and remembered always. Surviving are her four children, Peggy Hoey of Olympia, Tom Hoey of Olympia, Bob Hoey of Curlew, and Terry Hoey of Rochester; her husband of 27 years, George G. Phillips; 13 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia Hoey and sister, Helen Roetter.
