Obituary of Matt Peterson

Matthew “Matt” C. Peterson 1983 ~ 2008 Matt Peterson died Sunday evening, November 9th, near Corpus Christie, Texas in an industrial accident. Matt was doing one of the things he loved, climbing a tower on a wind farm to help make renewable energy a reality for the world. Matt was born February 26, 1983 in Redmond, Washington to D. Christopher and Judith C. Peterson. After three years in North Idaho, the family settled in Olympia in 1986. Matt graduated from Olympia High School in 2001. During those years, he was active in Boy Scouts, earning a rank of Life Scout. He also volunteered four years with the Thurston County Search and Rescue. Matt graduated from the University of Washington in 2005 with degrees in Physics, and Earth and Space Sciences. He was also an active rock climber, climbing in Washington, Oregon and British Columbia. He served two years in the Peace Corps in Namibia as a secondary school teacher. In February 2008, Matt took a position with Global Energy Concepts in Seattle as a Field Technician. In that capacity, he traveled the continental U. S. and Guam installing and servicing wind turbines. Matt is survived by his loving parents and sister, Erica R. Peterson of Olympia. Matt’s wisdom, wit and easy-going demeanor will be tremendously missed by those who knew and loved him. He was a great diplomat, negotiator and leader who loved life and lived it to its fullest. It is suggested, in lieu of purchasing flowers, that monetary donations be made to any or all of the following organizations in Matt’s name: The American Red Cross, Amnesty International, The Sierra Club and/or Planned Parenthood.
