I'm sorry to hear of the passing of your mother, Llyn. To this day my daughter remembers her table manners because Doris taught her which fork and spoon to use. She can set a table with the best of them. I am sorry I missed getting to know Doris better. She was long lived and a true Generation Greatest. julie

Goodbye to a great character, who raised some ruckuses, had a lot of fun, then left the world so quietly. To her wise and lovable children, lotso
love. To her lovely granddaughters and grandson, lucky to have a granny who could show you how a person can live with verve in easy times and hard ones. We should all be so full of life.

Dear Llyn,
I am so sorry to hear about your mom. I remember those tall glasses of orange juice and ice that she used to serve--no soda pop. She seemed always the caring lady, measured and reasonable, a thinking woman, an advocate for you and your friends. Know that my thoughts are with you and your family during this time of loss.

LLyn and Judo... it's truly a small world. My mother had cousin's living in Marion, Ohio and I visited that beautiful small town during portions of several summers while growing up in Michigan. While at Rico and Shelley's earlier today I looked at several other photos of Doris. I regret not having met Doris. She had a remarkable life and I'm grateful I know her children. Blessings upon Doris, Bill and the great kids they raised. Roger

Although I never met Doris May Patterson this obituary reveals her life in such lyrical and intimate ways. Lynn, you are a dear friend, colleague and mentor who I now see in more then a 3 dimensional way. I see your eyes reflected in your mother's smile. Your creativity in your mother's activities as a working woman, an activist, a woman who finds love in her work and for the risk of sounding ridiculous in your mother's ability to allow love to find her. This is so important. I remember when we taught a class and shared stories of having roots in working class families, particularly coal mining. You have breathed life into these stories. I remember so much right now...Thank you Lynn for sharing this life with all of us. Thanks you for being an excellent care giver. You and your mother's example make me smile.

So sorry about your mother, Llyn. I remember many happy times at your house with her. I also remember when she ran for office and we tore down the opponent's signs and put hers up--we were so brave. I'm glad you were with her. She was a lovely lady.

Llyn, I was absolutely bowled over by your mom's obit. I had absolutely no idea of her involvement in so many worthwhile activities. I must have been blind, deaf or dumb. And what a lovely picture of her. She was a beautiful woman. Our love and sympathy.

Llynn, my condolences to you and your family. I lost both my parents when they were still pretty young and it was a jolt to my whole family. However, it is never easy, especially, I would think, when you have had them with you and spent so many good times together. My prayers and thoughts are with you and may God be with you also.

I wa sorry to hear of the passing of your mother. I know the passing of my second parent has been the most difficult to adjust to. I find my self thinking "I should tell dad this..." or "ask dad about...". I'm now the family senior resource.
About your mom:
1. In 1957 she panicked me by asking if "Lynn was supposed to be wearing one of those" referring to my tunic for the Latin Banquet before you made your appearance.
2. Whenever she saw me in a store or at a school function she called out my name and we would talk briefly.
3. Didn't she also work at Wahlrab Jewelers in Eastown for a while?

I'm sorry for your loss. No matter how old we are, or how old they are, losing our parents is hard. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
