Obituary of Edyth Gunhilde Weterlund Owens

. Edythe Gunhilde Westerlund Owens Edythe Owens, 96, passed away after a short term stay in Salem Memorial Hospital as the result of a fall and hip fracture. She was born in Hoquiam to Mary and Billy (William) Westerlund. She graduated from Hoquiam High School in 1928 and spent her parenting and work life in Hoquiam. Edythe was a dedicated mother and wife and shared with her husband the joys of seeing both children graduate from college. After raising children she went to work at Emerson Elementary School as a cook and will always be remembered for her “special treats” and recipes given to staff and students alike. Early retirement years were spent with her husband at their homes on the Puget Sound, Olympia, Washington and Bouse, Arizona. The last decade they settled in Lacey, Washington. Her activities centered on “doing things” for family and many friends. Her generosity was particularly felt by her sharing the harvest of flowers and vegetables from her and “Tex’s” large gardens. After the death of her husband in December 2003 she moved to adult care facilities in Lacey and Yelm, Washington. In December 2005 she moved to a Salem care home to be close to her son. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Leonard and Mary Lou Dickey, of Seattle, Washington and their children, Mark and Brien Dickey, and Annalise M. Dickey Beck; son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Susan Owens, of Salem, Oregon, and their children, Michael Owens and Dr. Jennifer Owens Foster; also three great grandchildren, Lauren vanBreeman, Julia Owens Foster and Kevin Dickey. A family gathering will be held in December. Please leave your memories and condolences for the family by clicking on the "View Guestbook" link below.
