Obituary of Boyd Owen

Boyd Owen August 29, 1922 – June 14, 2012 Boyd passed away peacefully at Olympia Manor with family members at his bedside on June 14, 2012. Boyd was born to Daisy and Wallace Owen on August 29, 1922 in Marlow, Oklahoma. He resided in Marlow on the family farm until the onset of World War II. Boyd served the duration of the war in the Navy in the Pacific Theater onboard the aircraft carriers USS Saratoga and the USS Gilbert Islands. Boyd was awarded seven (7) battle stars and many campaign ribbons and medals, including the Philippine Liberation Medal. Boyd operated Boyd’s Barbershop in Olympia for 35 years. He introduced razor cutting for men to Olympia in the early 1960s. Boyd retired in 1990. He had fond memories of the many customers he met and often spoke of them. Boyd enjoyed his retirement years playing his guitars, fiddles and mandolin. Boyd also enjoyed cooking and baking for his family, reading books of all kinds, particularly history, and was an avid Mariners fan. Boyd was preceded in death by Helen Owen, his wife of 61 years. He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Owen of Olympia, a son, Rick and his wife Lou Owen of Olympia, a granddaughter, Keri Owen of Olympia, and a brother Neal Owen of Marlow, Oklahoma.
