Mary Olson

Obituary of Mary Sylvia Olson

Mary Sylvia Olson passed away the morning of May 22, 2007 at the age of 73. Mary was born December 7, 1933 to Sylvia and Mike Basich of South Aberdeen, Washington. Mary grew up with three brothers, Pete, Bob, and Tony, all graduating from Weatherwax High School. She married John Olson in 1953. They were happily married for 53 years. They raised three sons, John Michael, Robert Allan, and Douglas Edward. Robert Allan preceded her in death in 1971. Mary had the love of three grandchildren, Amanda, Hannah, and Clara, as well as three great grandchildren, Jenner, Abigail, and Avery. Mary had a zest for life. She hosted memorable birthdays, holidays, and all types of parties for friends and family. Her delicious pies, cookies and cinnamon rolls will be dearly missed. Mary enjoyed many activities throughout her life including gardening, bowling, softball, camp-outs along the Wynooche River and RVing across the U.S. Mary had many life-long friends from Aberdeen as well as newer friends from Hood Canal and Tumwater. She was active in community clubs including the Wishkah Homemakers of Grays Harbor and Dosey Dux Homemakers of Jefferson County. Mary was not only a talented homemaker, but also worked in Aberdeen for the schools, at L.G. Isaacson, and for Dr. Pollock’s office. After retirement, Mary and John moved from Wishkah Valley to Brinnon, Washington where they enjoyed the view and the bounty of local seafood. We all enjoyed the delicious dishes Mary prepared from them. John and Mary moved to Tumwater in 2004, soon after Mary was diagnosed with cancer. She was cared for lovingly by her husband and family. Mary was a wonderful grandmother, mother, wife, and friend. She will be thought of often. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the cancer society of your choice.
