Obituary of David E. Olson

No visitation is planned David E. Olson 1944-2007 David Olson let go of life peacefully on October 24, 2007. He was awaiting a lung transplant at the University of Washington Medical Center. An aggressive form of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis began 10 months ago. David waged a heroic battle and never gave up hope. New lungs just didn’t arrive in time. Early Years David spent his growing years in Centralia, WA. graduating from high school in 1962.Completing studies at Centralia College and Washington State University he worked in Anchorage, AK in the newspaper business and advertising agencies. From 1974-1978 he worked on the Trans Alaska Pipeline as a camp manager at Pump Station No#1 in Prudhoe Bay. The Designer Guy He began his lengthy career as a graphic designer in the late 70’s. He opened a graphic design shop within his mom’s (Betty Edinger) interior design and antique shop, “Bet’s Place.” They collaborated on many interior design projects. David Olson Design Group created logos for The Valley Athletic Club; City of Tumwater; South Puget Sound Community College; Anchor Bank; Eye Physician’s Of Olympia (currently Clarus Eye Center) and many more. He won Seattle Design Awards for logos and advertising for Olympia Anesthesia Association; Tumwater Bluegrass Festival posters and the Bread & Butter Delicatessen. From 1988 to 2000 David owned Designer’s Service Bureau, a desktop publishing service. He semi-retired to help design and oversee the building of his two dream homes. Always saying “I have one more business in me,” he took up creative metal work. His current business with Lynn McClune is DesignCut. It has grown quickly into a well-known fixture at the Olympia Farmers Market. David saw the world and experienced life through the lens of a designer. His Girl At the very core of David’s world was his wife, Kristi Morrish. Best friends and soul mates in love for 25 years. Family David is survived by his mother, Betty Edinger, his older brother Terry Olson (Claudia) of Olympia and his younger brother Rick Olson (Malu) living and teaching in Peru.
