I've never known anyone quite like Larry. As carpool partners for many years, Larry and I commuted to PLU from Olympia every day. It was a privledge to have known him and we are all saddened by his passing. I remember Larry for his amazing sense of humor, his love of sports cars (unfortunately on a PLU salary the new Viper wasn't quite within his reach), his fascination and amazing knowledge of even the most obscure historical references, his outspoken advocacy of the Mac over the PC, and his passion for doing things the right way. I still laugh when I recall the stories he would tell during our 20 minute commute. And I am most grateful for all the good advice he gave to me over the years about life, career, and family.

Nancy and Family,
My deepest sympathies extend to you at this time. Although I never met Larry, his wonderful character and sense of humor showed in the notes he wrote to keep us updated during his treatments. What a light he brought to this world, even during such difficult times. Please know that my thoughts are with you and your family. We miss you here at Parkside, and look forward to seeing you again.

Dear Nancy and Family, I have just read the many messages left here on this web site. What a wonderful tribute to your husband and father. I hope they bring you comfort in knowing how much Larry will be missed and how much his life meant to so many. I know it has always meant a lot to me to be fortunate enough to have known Larry's friendship. It is rare to find a person who thinks of others before himself and who demonstrates true kindness. I am sorry that his time with us all was so short. He will be greatly missed. I know that he loves you all dearly and I will pray that this love and God's love will surround and comfort you. Nancy, if I can help in any way, please let me know.

We found Larry to be a wonderful person. We were so sorry to hear about the cancer and kept Larry, Nancy, Stacey, Dan & Jackson in our prayers through his treatment. When he told Laura that it "felt like God had given him a big paper bag of friends and he was so grateful" it warmed her heart. Our deepest sympathy to his family and friends. He will be sorely missed.

I was so sorry to hear about Larry's passing. I know this has to be a very hard time for you and Stacy but we wanted you to know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and the rest of the family. It seems like yesterday that Larry and all of us "Bachler" kids were walking up and down our peaceful country roads and swimming in the creek or watching the fish in Hum and Gypsy's fish pond. I have so many wonderful memories of our times together and how much love was shared between our families. I have let Cari know and she sends her love to you also. Gypsy was so special to Cari and to us all, and so was Larry. Please know that we share your grief because he was and always will be a very special part of our lives. If their is anything we can do please let us know. We will hold you in our thoughts and prayers.

Larry it was always an honor to have known you. 3.5 years of High School together and then loss of contact for 38 years. Then I answered the phone at Cheri Gonyaws one Easter and it was you calling for her. After that and an exchange of e mails and getting back in touch with many of the people that I went to High School with and being invited back to attend the 40th reunion of our graduation two years ago. Since then so many e mails regarding your health and suggestions from me regardint some of your prosthetic options since that is an area of medicine that I worked in as a purchasing agent and contract specialist. May you now have the peace and happines of eternal life and Nancy my sincerest condolences to you, your daugter, son-in-law and grandson.

I worked with Larry at the Puyallup Extension site of Fort Steilacom Community College. The last time I saw him(many years ago) he stated that the older he got the more gadgets his car had. I thought that was a true statement for many of us and we had a good laugh about it. It was a pleasure to have known and worked with him.

My entry into higher education administration started when Larry chose to hire me for a position at the Puyallup Campus for FSCC (now Pierce College). As my "first" boss, I'll always remember his sense of humor (even during trying periods), commitment to excellence, and openness to new ideas. While I haven't touched bases with Larry in many years, I feel blessed to have known him.

One of my joys in working in the church is having gotten to know Larry. Somehow we got on the same "wavelength" and stayed there. It's rare to meet someone with whom you don't have to communicate to know what they are thinking. Larry and I had a lot of those moments.
I joy in having known him and will miss his presence in my life and the life of the church terribly.
