William Myers

Obituary of William J. Myers

William J. Myers, 77, passed away October 23 after a brief battle with colon cancer. Bill was a native Olympian, born October 30, 1928, the second child of Delbert and Hazel Myers. He grew up on the west side and graduated from Olympia High School, where he managed the football team. After a brief period doing lawn work and taking a job with the state, Bill joined the Air Force in 1950 and became a sergeant in the Military Police. While stationed at Lakenheath Air Force Base near Cambridge, England, he met his future wife, Patricia Johnston. They were married in 1952, and their daughter, Andrea, was born later that year. Upon returning to the states in 1954, Bill went to work for the Department of Licensing, where he would stay for the next 26 years. A son, Robert, was born in 1957. In 1980 Bill retired from state employment, devoting most of the next 25 years to his garden, where he grew, with intermittent success, vegetables, and, with much greater success, roses (he also returned to doing lawn work for others, including many families for whom he had first worked for as a teenager). In addition to his wife and children, Bill is survived by his sisters Evelyn and Sandy, his brother Jerry, his grandchildren, Sean and Carolyn, and more aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces than it is possible to count. The family asks that donations be made in Bill's name to the Hospice Center at Sisters of Providence St. Peter Hospital (http://www.providence.org/swsa/foundation/donation.htm) Please leave your condolences and memories for the family by clicking on the "view guestbook" link below.
