I have many good memories of Joe annd his wife at Olympia Lacey Church of God always willing to share not only a smile but also his wisdom on any given health and nutrition info, it was his passion. He will be missed but now is in the comforting arms of our Lord Jesus. From our family to yours may the God of all comfort be your all in all. My condolences Love Larry Hoff

The years go racing through my mind when I think of Joe, the Benches and so many events and people that go back to Hillside Dr. The energy of Virginia when Joe came home. Who Who and Howie - their futzing and love. Sally and her rosy cheeks, easy welcome and just hanging out upstairs.
-- The first time I saw Charolette and Katherine when Sally brought them over to our house -- the farm, the animals, grand kids. And always searching for a way to do it better (no matter what "it" was)
I always felt the cover of protective wings when in the house of Benches. I knew that Howie was proud of me because he said so. I knew that he and his family cared for me, for life and for so many.
There was team work, passionate pushing to be healthy and always a new something to do/buy/think/or sell.
Well - the memories flood in.
I'm sure Joe is finding the giggles from the old days once again also. I'm sure he's connecting with the folks who are part of this loving past and saying HI again. I can see those slaps on the back and hear a hardy welcome home - good job. "A PRETTY AMAZING LIFE, DON'T YOU THINK?"

Hello Charlotte,
After so many years ago and not really knowing your parents, I do vaguely remember both your mother and father and just wanted to let you know that we send our heartfelt condolences. We have been going through lots of old pictures and just recently came across a picture of you so that brought up some long-ago memories for us. May your memories of your father be a comfort to you and your family.

I was blessed to have known Joe. I will remember his gentleness and kindness forever. What a loving family he had. He was truly blessed with a wonderful wife of 64 years too. I will miss him but I will remember him and help keep his memory alive.

Joe was one of the kindest people I ever knew. While growing up, he used to give me rides in his open air jeep, which was a supreme treat. I've just always remembered him as being so kind and non-judgmental.
